Softball Takes Game 1 Against Pikeville Behind Gels' Complete Game.

(PIKEVILLE, Ky.) – The Thomas More University softball team won the opening game of this weekend's series against Pikeville by a score of 5 to 1. Game two was halted by a weather delay and will resume tomorrow. The Saints improve to an overall record of 19-13, to go with a Mid South record of 8-9. 

 How they scored

Thomas More defeats Pikeville, 5-1.
  • Junior Josie Wefer (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) collects an RBI on a ground out in the top of the first inning to give Thomas More the lead. (1-0)
  • A second run one could in to score on an error by the Pikeville first basemen. (2-0)
  • Junior Sarah Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio / Rootstown) and senior Sydney Bledsoe (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) each score on past balls in the 4th inning to stretch the Saint lead. (4-0)
  • Senior Becca Mowen (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) hits an RBI double in the 7th inning to make it a 5 run game. (5-0)
  • Pikeville is able to push one run across in the final frame. (5-1)

 
 
  • Becca Mowen went 2-4 at the plate with a double and a RBI.
  • First year Sophia Thomas (Cleves, Ohio / Taylor) went 2-4 at the plate with a triple.
  • Graduate student Maclai Branson (Union, Ky. / Ryle) went 1-3 at the plate with a double, run scored and a walk.
  • Senior Kaylee Beal (Bright, Ind. / East Central) went 2-3 at the plate for the Saints.

 
 
  • Senior Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) threw a complete game, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 5. She picked up the win for the Saints.

 Up Next

The Saints will be back in action tomorrow when the pick up where they lost off in game 2 of this weekend series, with the Saints leading 1-0 in the second inning. Game three of the series will follow after the conclusion of game two.
