(Crestview Hills, Ky..)-Thomas More University's softball team swept Cumberland (Tenn.) on Friday (March 17th) afternoon to open the weekend series. The Saints improve to an overall record of 11-6 to go along with a Mid South Conference record of 4-3. The Saints took game 1 by a score of 10-9 after scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th which was capped off by a walk-off grand slam from senior
Becca Mowen (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) that showed some unbelievable sportsmanship from Cumberland as they helped Mowen round the bases after a injury. In game 2 the Saints got out in front early and held the lead to win 13-5 in 5 innings of play.
Game 1: Thomas More 10-9
- Cumberland took an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning. (0-1)
- Junior Delaney Kemper (Williamstown, Ky. / Williamstown) hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning to bring home a run and tie it up. (1-1)
- Cumberland pushed 4 more runs across during the next to innings to take back the lead. (1-5)
- In the bottom half of the third inning, first year Sophia Thomas (Cleves, Ohio / Taylor) hit a sacrifice fly to bring home another Saint run. (2-5)
- Graduate student Maclai Branson (Union, Ky. / Ryle) hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another Saint run in the 4th inning. (3-5)
- In the bottom of the 5th inning, junior Josie Wefer (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) hits a 2 run home run to tie the game at 5. (5-5)
- Cumberland took back the lead with 4 more runs in the next two innings. (5-9)
- In the bottom of the 7th, Josie Wefer walked to bring home another Thomas More run. (6-9)
- That set up a bases loaded situation for Becca Mowen, who hit a grand slam to walk it off for the Saints. (10-9)
Game 2: Thomas More 13-5 (5 innings)
- Sophomore Karys Black (Burlington, Ky. / Boone County) hit a sacrificed fly in the top of the first inning to give Thomas More a lead. (1-0)
- In the bottom of the second, Junior Tori Madden (Anderson, Ohio / Anderson) hit a single to score another Thomas More run. (2-0)
- Senior Kaylee Beal (Bright, Ind. / East Central) singled to score another Saint run. (3-0)
- Maclai Branson followed with a 3 run home run to extend the lead. (6-0)
- Karys Black made it back to back as she hit a solo home run to add another run. (7-0)
- Cumberland put up 4 runs in the 4th inning. (7-4)
- Maclai Branson would triple to score another Saint run in the bottom of the 4th. (8-4)
- Delanay Kemper followed with a single to extend the lead. (9-4)
- Cumberland scored another run in the top of the 5th. (9-5)
- Maclai Branson would double to score two more Thomas More runs. (11-5)
- Karys Black and Josie Wefer each had RBI singles in the 5th to make it a 13-5 game.

- Senior Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched 6.0 innings, giving up 7 earned runs on 8 hits, and striking out 6.
- Senior Emily Wisman (Okeana, Ohio/Harrison) pitched 1.0 innings, giving up 1 earned run on 3 hits. She picked up the win.
Game 2:
- Junior Cassidy King (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) pitched 4.0Â innings, giving up four earned runs off of seven hits and stricking out 2. She picked up the win.
- Sophomore Emma Kent (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) pitched 1.0 innings, giving up 0 runs on 1 hit.

The Saints return to action tomorrow (March 18th) at Thomas More Softball Field against Cumberland. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM ET.
