Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)-Thomas More University baseball team fell to Cumberland (Tenn.) on Saturday (April 30) 5-4 in game three of the Opening Round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament. The Saints finish their season with an overall record of 30-16 and 15-7 in conference.
- Junior Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) singled through the center to score senior Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) and junior Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky./Conner) to put the Saints up 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning (2-0).
- Cumberland scored three runs in the second inning and one run in the fourth 2-4.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, senior Brett Benzinger (Taylor, Mill, Ky./New Richmond) started the inning off hitting a home run to left field to put the Saints within one (3-4).
- Cumberland scored one run in the top of the seventh inning (3-5).
- Brett Benzinger scored off a hard hit double by sophomore Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) to put the Saints within one once again in the bottom of the seventh inning (4-5).
- Graduate student right-handed pitcher Kyle Fieger (Ft. Mitchell/Beechwood) pitched 4.2 innings, giving up four runs (one earned) off nine hits, and struck out three.
- Sophomore left-handed pitcher Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 1.2 innings, giving up one earned run off three hits.
- First year right-handed pitcher Austin Dennies (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) pitched 2.2 innings, giving up no runs off two hits, and struck out two.
The Saints will return next spring for their 2023 season at their new home field Thomas More Stadium in Florence.
