Baseball Splits on Day Two of Lindsey Wilson Series

Columbia, Ky. - The baseball program at Thomas More split with the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson as they fell in game one 16-6 and won game two 10-7. With the split the Saints move to 8-7 on the year and 2-3 in Mid-South play.

Game one: Lindsey wins 16-6.

  • Lindsey Wilson jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
  • Thomas More would get on the board as Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky. / Randall K. Cooper) would single to drive in Casey Nowak (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) and Cooper Daniels (Franklin, Ohio / Franklin) to bring the score to 3-2.
  • The Saints would tie up the game as Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) would hit a sac fly to score Pearson from third.
  • The Blue Raiders would add four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-3 lead heading into the fourth.
  • Nowak would hit a single in the top of the fourth that scored Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier) from first to make the score 8-4, Lindsey.
  • Lindsey scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to bring the tally to 10-4.
  • The Blue Raiders had four more cross in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 14-4.
  • Caruso would hit a single that would drive in Nowak in the top of the sixth to bring the score to 14-5.
  • Pearson would steal third and then advance home on an errant throw to make the score 14-6.
  • Lindsey Wilson would score the final two runs in the bottom of the sixth to bring the final tally to 16-6.

  • Nowak would go a perfect four-for-four with two runs scored, one rbi, and a double.
  • Pearson went one-for-two at the dish with two runs scored and an rbi.

  • Sophomore Landen Scott (Independence, Ky. / Simon Kenton) pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing seven runs on seven hits.
  • Graduate pitcher Kyle Fieger (Ft. Mitchell, Ky. / Beechwood) threw for 2 1/3 innings allowing seven runs on eight hits.
  • Jackson Hall (Hebron, Ky. / Conner) threw 1 1/3 innings allowing two runs on four hits.

Game two: Thomas More wins 10-7.

  • Lindsey jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Brett Benzinger (Taylor Mill, Ky. / New Richmond) reached on a fielders choice that would score Nowak (4-1).
  • First-year AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) would single to left to score Pearson and Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry) to bring the Saints within one.
  • The Blue Raiders would notch two runs in the bottom of the third to increase their lead to 6-3.
  • In the top of the fifth Pearson would score on a wild pitch to make the score 6-4.
  • Enginger would have another big at bat in the fifth as the first-year hit a single to score Baldock and Caruso to bring the score to 6-6.
  • First-year Danny Flanigan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) would bloop a double into center field that would score Enginger to give the Saints their first lead of the series.
  • Nowak would continue his impressive day with a single to score Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky./Conner) to make the score 8-6.
  • Caruso singled into left field in the top of the seventh to score Flanigan increasing the lead to 9-6.
  • Caruso singled again in the top of the ninth inning to score Vogelgesang to bring the tally to 10-6.
  • The Blue Raiders come back attempt would be cut short in the ninth with the final score being 10-7.

  • Caruso went four-for-five from with two rbi's, one run scored, and would draw a walk.
  • Nowak slashed three for five with one run scored, one run batted in, and drew one walk.
  • Flanigan went a perfect three-for-three from the dish with one run scored and one batted in.
  • Baldock would add two runs scored with two walks.
  • Enginger collected four rbi's in four plate appearances with one run scored.
  • Pearson batted two-for-five from the plate with two runs scored and a walk.

  • Sophomore Mason Berger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched four complete innings allowing three earned runs on four hits.
  • Sophomore Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) came in and pitched five complete innings in relief allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts.
