Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)-Thomas More University baseball split day of their series against Wright State-Lake on Saturday afternoon (March 26) with the scores of 20-6 in game and 6-7 in game two. The Saints overall record is now 16-10.
Game 1: Thomas More 20-6-five innings
- Wright State-Lake scored one run in the top of the first inning (0-1).
- The Saints had a very strong bottom of the first inning with sophomore Gavin Pearson starting off the scoring for the team with junior Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) being hit by a hit with the bases loaded to tie the game up at 1-1. Senior Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) would score on a hit ball by sophomore Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry) and junior Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky./Conner) would score by an error from the third baseman to put the Saints up 3-1. Junior Noah Weingartner (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) scored on a bad throw from the catcher down to second base in the bottom of the first inning to make it a 4-1 game. Senior Brett Benzinger (Taylor Mill, Ky./New Richmond) singled to send in Brady Baldock to extend the lead to 5-1. Brett Benzinger would score off a single hit by senior Casey Nowak (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) (6-1). Gavin Pearson would tehn step up to plate, hitting a triple to send in Casey Nowak and first year Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) to put the team up 8-1. Bailey Martin would step up next and double to score Gavin Pearson (9-1). Bailey Martin would close out the scoring for the Saints in the bottom of the first by advancing home on an error by the shortstop (10-1).
- Derek Atwood hit a sac fly to centerfield to score Casey Nowak in the bottom of the third inning to put the Saints up 11-1. Jacob Caruso singled to send in Gavin Pearson to extend the lead to 12-1. Brett Benzinger stepped to the plate hitting a single to advance Bailey Martin to home to score for the Saints final run of the inning (13-1).
- Wright State-Lake scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning (13-6).
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, Bailey Martin singled to score Gavin Vogelgesang to make it a 14-6 game. Gaving Pearson would then score on a wild pitch on the next batter (15-6). Jacob Caruso would step up next, hitting a single to send in Derek Atwood and Bailey Martin (17-6). Senior Aiden Reverman (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) doubled to score Brady Baldock, extending the Saints lead to 18-6. Aiden Reverman and Brett Benzinger would score the Saints final runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning (20-6).
Game 2: Wright State-Lake 7-6
- Wright State-Lake scored two runs in the top of the first inning (0-2).
- Bailey Martin singled to score Gavin Pearson and Casey Nowak to tie the game up at 2-2 in the bottom of the first inning. Brett Benzinger would then single to send in Bailey Martin to give the Saints the lead 3-2. Brady Baldock would step up to the plate and double to score first year AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) and Brett Benzinger to extend the lead to 5-2.
- Wright State-Lake would score three runs i the top of the second (5-5).
- Aiden Reverman singled to score Noah Weingartner in the bottom of the third inning to give the Saints the lead once again (6-5).
- Wright State-Lake scored one run in the top of the fourth and one run in the top of the sixth inning (6-7).
Game 1:
- Gavin Pearson went 2-2 at the plate with a double, a triple, two walks, two RBIs, and scored four runs.
- Bailey Martin was 2-2 with two walks, a double, and scored four runs.
- Derek Atwood went 1-2 with one RBI and scored two runs.
- Jacob Caruso went 2-3 with four RBIs.
- Brett Benzinger was 3-4 at the plate with two RBIs and scored two runs.

- Aj Enginger went 2-3 at the plate with a double and scored one run.
Game 1:
- Sophomore right handed pitcher Mychal Grogan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 4.0 innings, giving up six earned runs off four hits, and struck out four.
- Senior right handed pitcher Mitch Mierke (Milford, Ohio/Milford) pitched 1.0 inning, giving up no runs and no hits, and struck one.
Game 2:
- Sophomore right handed pitcher Landen Scott (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) pitched 4.0 innings, giving up six runs (five earned) off nine hits, and struck out four.
- Sophomore left handed pitcher Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 3.0 innings, giving up one unearned run off two hits, and struck out three.
The Saints return to the field tomorrow (March 27) against Wright State-Lake for day two of their series starting at 12:00 pm ET.
