Baseball has Big Offensive Day to Sweep Ohio Christian in Double Header

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)-Thomas More University baseball team defeated Ohio Christian on Friday (Feb. 11) in a double header. The Saints won game one with the score of 12-0 and game two with the score of 9-2. The Saints overall record improves to 4-2.

Game 1: Thomas More 12-0

  • In the bottom of the first inning junior catcher Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) hit a sac fly to center field for an RBI, sending in senior center fielder Casey Nowak (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) to put the Saints on the board (1-0). Sophomore left fielder Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry) continued the scoring in the bottom of the first with a single, scoring first year third baseman Gavin Vogelsang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) (2-0). First year AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) doubled to send in senior right fielder Aiden Reverman (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and sophomore first baseman Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) (4-0) to close out the scoing for the Saints in the bottom of the first.
  • Brady Baldock would be hit by a pitch in the bottom of the second, to advance Casey Nowak to home (5-0). Next up, Gavin Pearson would walk, to send in senior second baseman Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) to extend the Saints lead to 6-0. Aiden Reverman singled for two RBIs for the Saints, sending in Brady Baldock and junior pinch runner Cooper Daniels (Franklin, Ohio/Franklin) (8-0). Gavin Person would close out the scoring for the Saints in the second inning scoing off a fielder's choice hit by AJ Enginger (9-0).
  • Senior shortstop Brett Benzinger (Taylor Mill, Ky./New Richmond) doubled to score Aiden Reverman in the bottom of the fourth inning (10-0). Brett Benzinger would score off of an error hit by Casey Nowak for the Saints final run of the fourth inning (11-0).
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, Brett Benzinger would double again to score Cooper Daniels for the Saints final run of the game (12-0).
  • The Saints would defeat Ohio Christian 12-0 in seven innings in game one.

Game 2: Thomas More 9-2

  • In the bottom of the first inning, Bailey Martin doubled for an RBI, sending in Gavin Pearson for the Saints first run of the game (1-0).
  • Ohio Christian would score one run in the top of the second to tie the game up at 1-1.
  • The Saints would go on a two out rally in the bottom of the third inning, starting off with Jacob Caruso doubling to right field to send in Bailey Martin to give the Saints the go ahead lead (2-1). Brady Baldock would step up next to the plate, hitting a back to back double to send in Cooper Daniels (3-1). Brett Benzinger would then single to advance Brady Baldock to score to extend the Saints lead to 4-1. Aiden Reverman would reach first on an error to score Brett Benzinger for the final run of the inning (5-1).
  • The Saints would have a hot fourth inning, starting off with another double by Jacob Caruso, scoring Bailey Martin and Gavin Pearson to put the Saints up 7-1. Brady Baldock would follow with a triple to score Cooper Daniels (8-1). To close out the bottom of the fourth, Brett Benzinger would double to send in Brady Baldock (9-1).
  • Ohio Christian would score one run in the top of the sixth inning (9-2).

Game 1:

  • Casey Nowak was 2-4 at the plate with one RBI and score two runs.
  • Brady Baldock went 1-2, with two RBIs, and scored two runs.
  • Brett Benzinger tallied two doubles, going 2-3 at the plate, having two RBIs and scored one run.
  • Aiden Reverman was 1-2 at the plate with two RBIs and scored one run.

Game 2:

  • Bailey Martin would have a perfect game at the plate, going 3-3 with one RBI of a double, and scored two runs.
  • Brett Benzinger tallied two RBIs and scored one run and was 2-2 at the plate to also have perfect game at the plate.
  • Gavin Pearson doubled and tripled, going 3-4 at the plate and scored two runs.
  • Jacob Caruso went 2-3 on the day at the plate with three RBIs off of two doubles.
  • Brady Baldock would record a double and a triple for two RBIs and went 2-3 at the plate. He also would score two runs.

Game 1:

  • Sophomore right handed pitcher Mychal Grogan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched six innings, allowing no runs off of one hit, and struck out four.
  • First year left handed pitcher Jackson Grimmelsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) recorded the save, pitching one inning and allowing no runs off of one hit.

Game 2:

  • Sophomore right handed pitcher Landen Scott (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) pitched six innings giving up one earned run off four hits and struck out four.
  • First year left handed pitcher Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) recorded the save, pitching one inning and allowing no runs and no hits.

 

The Saints return to the field on Tuesday (Feb. 15) as they take on Oakland City at 2:30 pm ET in Oakland City, Ind.
