Softball Splits Day 2 Double header with Georgetown to Split the Four Game Series

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)- Thomas More's softball team splits day two double header against Georgetown with scores of 12-7 (Georgetown) and 8-5 (Thomas More) to split the four-game series at 2-2. The Saints overall record goes to 12-15 and 5-13 in the conference. 

GAME 1: Georgetown 12-7: 8 innings

  • In the top of the 1st inning, junior catcher Adrian Marquez (Rushville, Ind./Rushville Consolidated) singled to center to score sophomore second baseman Caitlin Dawson  (Georgetown, Ky./Scott County) and senior first baseman Andrea Gahan's (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.
  • Georgetown scored one run in the top of the 6th to make it a 2-1 game.
  • Sophomore designated player Becca Mowen hit a single to right to score junior pinch runner Lindsey Meier (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) to extend the lead to 3-1. Next up, first-year third baseman Kai Dickerson (Walton, Ky./Ryle) would come up and hit a double to right to send in sophomore left fielder Mattison Fisher  (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) to make it 4-2.
  • Georgetown scored five runs in the top of the 7th inning to give them the go ahead 4-6 lead.
  • The Saints would rally back in the bottom of the 7th inning junior designated player Elana Harrison (Mason, Ohio/Mason) would hit a sac fly to center to send in senior center fielder Valerie Hudepohl (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) to make it a one run game (6-5). Gahan would score off of a fielder's choice hit by sophomore right fielder Sydney Blesdoe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) to tie the game up at 6-6.
  • Georgetown would score six runs in the top of the 8th inning. 
  • In the top of the 8th inning, Gahan would score of Blesdoe's single too short to make it 7-12.

GAME 2: Thomas More 8-5

  • Georgetown scored one run in the top of the 2nd inning. (0-1)
  • Georgetown then scored four runs in the top of 4th inning. (0-5)
  • Dickerson scored off the fielder's choice hit by Fisher (1-5) in the bottom of the 4th inning. Next up, Fisher scored off McAdoo's two-run homerun to make the score 3-5.
  • To start the bottom of the 6th off, Harrison would hit a solo homerun to right off the first pitch to put the Saints down by one (4-5). Sophomore pitcher Hannah Bishop (Union, Ky./Ryle) woul then score off Fisher's double to left to tie things up 5-5. McAdoo would step up next and hit a single to left to send in Fisher to give the Saints a 6-5 lead. Dawson would then score off Gahan's single to left to extended the Saints lead to 7-5. Hudeopohl would score the final run of the game off Gahan's single to left. 

GAME 1:

  • Gahan went 3-5 scoring three runs.
  • Marquez was 2-3 at the plate with two RBI's, one double, and a walk.
  • Dickerson was 2-3 at the plate with two doubles.

GAME 2:

  • McAdoo went 4-4 in game two at the plate with three RBI's, scoring one run, and hit a three-run homerun.
  • Hudepohl was 2-4 scoring one run.
  • Gahan went 2-4 with one RBI.
  • Harrison was 2-3 with one RBI, scoring one run, and hit a solo homerun.
  • Bishop went 2-2, scoring one run, and hit a double. 

GAME 1:

  • Sophomore pitcher Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched 8 innings giving up 12 runs off 13 hits and striking out one. 

GAME 2:

  • Sophomore pitcher Olivia Jackson (Florence, Ky./Boone County) started on the mound for the Saints pitching 3.1 innings, allowing four runs off four hits and striking out one. 
  • Bishop came in and pitched 3.2 innings, only allowing one run off four hits and striking out one. 

Next up, the Saints travel to Williamsburg, Ky. to take on RV Cumberlands on April 10 in a four game series starting off with a double header beginning at 2:00 pm ET.
