Box Score 2 (PIKEVILLE, Ky.) – The Thomas More University softball swept a Mid-South Conference doubleheader with the University of Pikeville today (Friday, March 26, 2021) in Pikeville, Kentucky. The Saints won game one, 10-3 and the nightcap, 12-5.
GAME 1
- The Saints scored one in the first, one in the second, three in the fourth and five in the fifth, while holding UPIKE to one in the third to lead 10-1 after four and a half innings.
- The Bears scored two in the fifth, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More post a 10-3 win.
- Senior center fielder Valerie Hudepohl (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was four-for-five with two runs scored and one run batted-in.
- Senior first baseman Andrea Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was three-for-four with three doubles and five RBI.
- Junior designated player Elana Harrison (Mason, Ohio/Mason) was three-for-five.
- Sophomore shortstop Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) finished three-for-three with two RBI and three runs scored.
- Sophomore pitcher Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) earned the win as she pitched all seven innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on eight hits and struck out six.
GAME 2
- The Saints led 7-5 after second inning as Thomas More scored seven in the top of the second and UPIKE scored five in the bottom of the second.
- Thomas More then scored one in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth to post the 12-5 victory.
- Sophomore catcher Becca Mowen (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) was four-for-five with two runs scored.
- McAdoo was three-for-four with two runs scored and a RBI.
- Sophomore second baseman Caitlin Dawson (Georgetown, Ky./Scott County) was three-for-four with two runs scored.
- Gahan was three-for-four with two RBI and two runs scored.
- Sophomore pitcher Hannah Bishop (Union, Ky./Ryle) earned the win as she pitched five and two-thirds innings and gave up two runs (both earned) on six hits.
- Sophomore pitcher Olivia Jackson (Florence, Ky./Boone County) pitched one and a third innings and gave up two runs (both earned) on four hits and struck out two.
- The Saints and the Bears will close out their four-game series tomorrow (Saturday, March 27) with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. in Pikeville.
