Men's Basketball Still Dancing in National Tournament with 68-55 Win Over Union

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)- Thomas More's men's basketball team dance on in the National Tournament with 68-55 win over Union College on Friday night (March 12). 

  • The Saints started off hot with a 3-point jump shot drained into the basket by senior Garren Bertsch (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) with 19:29 on the clock to give them a 3-0 lead.
  • Sophomore Reid Jolly (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a lay-up to put the Saints on an 8-0 run (26-17).
  • With 1:03 on the clock redshirt Junior Ryan Batte (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) made a free-throw to secure the 34-23 lead going into the half.
  • Batte led the first half with 14 points and five rebounds and had one assist.
  • Jolly followed with nine points and four rebounds and had one assist. 
  • Junior Logan Swackhammer (Chillicothe, Ohio/Unioto) led the Saints with two assists in the first half and also had two rebounds.
  • The Saints outscored the Bulldogs 34-23 in the first half. 

  • To start things off in the second half, Jolly swished a 3-point jump shot to put the Saints up 37-25 with 18:27 to play. 
  • Sophomore center Noah Pack (Georgetown, Ohio/Georgetown) made a 2-point jump shot with 7:52 on the clock to put the Saints up 54-44.
  • To secure the game for the Saints, first-year Derek Eddings (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) sunk a 3-pointer to put the Saints up 68-52 with 35 seconds left in the game.
  • Thomas More walked away with a 68-55 victory of Union College to advance on to play Morningside.
  • Jolly led the Saints in the second half with 13 points.
  • Pack led the team in rebounds with four and assists with two in the second half and he also had nine points.
  • Batte had 10 points, two rebounds, and one assist.

  • The Saints were 47.8% (22-46) from the field and 33.3% (4-13) from behind the 3-point line. 
  • Batte led the way for the Saints with 24 points and seven rebounds and had two assists.
  • Jolly followed with 22 points, four rebounds, and one assist.
  • Pack also led with seven rebounds and had 11 points and two assists.
  • Swackhammer led in assists with three and had three rebounds.
  • Bertsch had five points with five rebounds.
  • Senior guard Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) had six rebounds and three points. 

  • The Saints return to action tomorrow night (March 12) as they dance on to play Morningside (Iowa), with a 5:00 pm ET tip-off in the Connor Convocation Center.
