Saints Fall in Double Overtime Home Opener Thriller

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More women's lacrosse team opened its 2019 season today in a home opener thriller against Alma. The Saints fell 9-8 by sudden-death double overtime to the Scots, dropping to 0-1 on the season as Alma moved to 1-1. 

  • The Saints matched the Scots point-for-point for the first 20-minutes of the game. 
  • Katie Rice her first goal of her collegiate career in the 25-minute mark to even the game out.
  • Jeni Hall recorded her first goal of the season, scoring in the 22-minute mark, to even the game at 2-2. 
  • Rice found the back of the net again in the 18-minute mark, to tie the game at 3-3.
  • Jalee Connor cut the Scot's lead to one after she found the net off a free-position shot in the 8-minute mark. 
  • Coming out of half-time, Rice scored her third goal of the game off a free position shot with 24-minutes left in the game. 
  • Connor cut the lead to one again, scoring with 22-minutes to go. 
  • Erin Carrus found the back of the net for the first time this season off an assist from Rice, scoring the Saints' third goal in a row and tying the game at 7-7. 
  • Carrus scored game tying goal to send the game into overtime off a free position shot. 
  • Alma scored with 2:47 left in the second overtime to win the game 9-8. 

  • Rice earned a 'hat-trick' tonight as she scored the team-high, three goals, also recording one assist, two draw-controls, and five shots-on-goal.
  • Connor found the back of the net twice, while also recording one ground-ball, one draw control, adn three shots-on-goal. 
  • Carrus added three shots-on-goal, while Hall recorded four shots-on-goal and one fround ball. 
  • Katie Bryson recorded three caused turnovers, two ground balls, and one draw control.
  • Aleyna Heyman grabbed two ground balls and caused two turnovers.
  • Kennedy Yurt was in goal for the entire 69-minutes of the game, recording 10 saves and allowing nine goals.
  • The Saints had the 10-8 advantage in saves-per-period. 

  • Thomas More remains home this week, hosting Madonna on Thursday for a 4 p.m. start.
