Softball Extends Win Streak to 12 With Wins Over Anderson

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College softball team hosted Anderson University for a double header today, Sunday April 22. The Saints improved their win streak to 12 as they won the first game 6-0 and the second game 13-3 in five innings. Thomas More improved its record to 24-12 overall with the two wins.

In the first game, the Saints scored all six runs in the sixth inning. Sammy Sagers singled to right field, scoring Andrea Gahan. Mary Beth Odom hit a home run to left field, scoring Sagers. Dallis Knotts hit a home run to left field, scoring Amanda Lloyd and Theresa Urban for the 6-0 win. Laura Finke, Knotts, Gahan, and Odom all went 1-3 at the plate with Knotts recording three RBI's and one run scored and Odom recording two RBI's and one run scored. Sagers went 2-3, with one RBI and one run scored. Alix DeDreu was on the mound in game one, facing 22 batters, only giving up three hits and zero runs with six strikeouts. Hannah Sprague came in for DeDreu in the seventh inning, recording one strikeout facing three batters.

In the second game, the Saints got on the board early when DeDreu reached on a fielder's choice, advancing to second on an error, advancing Finke to third who scored on the error. In the second inning, Lloyd hit a home run to left field, scoring Odom. Finke tripled to right center, scoring Sydney Turner. DeDreu singled to right center, scoring Finke. Gahan doubled to left center, scoring DeDreu. Gahan reached home on a run down as Sagers attempted to steal second. Bree Appel reached first on an error, advancing Jalee Connor to third and scoring Sagers, putting the Saints up 7-0. Anderson put up runs in the third inning, cutting the lead to four. The Saints had an answer for Anderson's three runs, getting all three runs back in the bottom of the third inning. Knotts singled and advanced to second on an error, which advanced Finke and scored Turner. DeDreu hit a ball to the shortstop, getting out at first, which advanced Knotts to third and scored Finke. Morgan Wells grounded out to second base, scoring Knotts. The Saints kept the scoring streak alive, scoring two final runs in the fourth inning. Finke tripled to left field, scoring Lloyd and Lauren Willett.

Finke went 3-4 in game two, recording three RBI's and three runs scored. Knotts went 2-3, scoring one run. Odom went 1-1, scoring one run and DeDreu went 1-3 scoring one run and recording three RBI's. Lloyd went 2-3 scoring two runs and two RBI's. Turner went 1-2, scoring two runs. Sprague was on the mound to start the game, facing 14 batters for three runs off five hits and recording two strikeouts. Knotts came in for Sprague in the fourth inning, facing six batters recording two strikeouts.

The Saints will host Westminster on April 25 for a chance to clinch the top spot in the PAC and a chance to host the PAC Tournament. The first pitch will be thrown out at 3:30 pm.
