Box Score (CINCINNATI, Ohio) – The Thomas More College women's lacrosse team fell, 18-2, to across-the-river rival Mount St. Joseph University tonight (Wednesday, April 18, 2018) in an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) match at Schueler Field in Cincinnati, Ohio.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 1-7 overall and 1-7 in the ORLC. With the win, the Lions improve to 5-7 overall and 4-3 in the ORLC.
Mount St. Joseph jumped out to a 9-0 lead with 9:26 to play in the first half. Thomas More cut the lead to 9-1 with 6:49 to play in the first half when junior Jalee Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) found the back of the net. The Lions closed out the first half with three-straight goals to take a 12-1 lead at halftime.
Mount St. Joseph opened the second half with a goal to increase the lead to 13-1 and then senior Sydney Polster (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) scored to cut the lead to 13-2 23:53 to play in the second half. The Lions scored the final five goals to post the 18-2 victory.
Connor, Polster, senior Sarah LaCombe (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland), junior Karly Lehmkul (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) and first-year Ashley Maples (Springboro, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) all tallied two ground balls. Maples led the team defensively with four caused turnovers, while LaCombe had three and Lehmkul had two.
Sophomore Erin Carrus (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) suffered the loss in goal as she played the first 30 minutes and gave up 12 goals, while recording five saves. First-year Kylie Anderson (Florence, Ky./Boone County) played 18:47 in goal and allowed five goals, while registering three saves. Junior Gillian Casey (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) played the final 11:13 and had two saves and gave up one goal.
Thomas More returns to action on Sunday (April 22) when it travels to Washington, Pennsylvania to play Washington & Jefferson College at 1 p.m. at Alexandre Stadium.
