Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College softball team hosted Alma College for its home opener today March 18, 2018. The 2-6 Saints came into today looking to add two more in the win column, taking down the 11-3 Scots.
In the first game, the Scots got on the board first scoring one run off a McKenzie Creed single, advancing Chelsea Schwiger, and scoring Cassidy Tucker. The Saints countered with a score of their own. Sammy Sagers got on base by a walk, advancing Andrea Gahan and Kenzi Dickerson, scoring Alex DeDreu. The game remained scoreless and tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh inning. DeDreu doubled scoring Laura Finke sending the Saints to a 2-1 victory.
In the second game, the Saints came out hot in the second inning. Back-to-back-to-back homeruns by Sagers, Mary Beth Odom, and Bree Appel, giving the Saints a 3-0 lead. Alma fought back off a Mary Brooks single, scoring Casidy Tucker, and a Kaylee Martin single, scoring Mary Brooks to cut the Saints lead to one, 3-2. The Scots tied the game in the sixth inning off a Madyson Piche single, scoring Kaylee Martin. The Saints countered again to take a 3-4 lead when Sagers grounded to the shortstop, scoring Gahan in the bottom of the sixth. Alma answered in the seventh to tie the game on a sacrifice fly, scoring Cassidy Tucker. Amanda Lloyd homered for a walk-off home run, giving the Saints their second win of the day, 5-4.
The Saints ended game one with 10 hits at 28 at-bats and only one error. Gahan went 3-3 and DeDreu and Finke went 2-4. In the second game, the Saints had seven hits on 26 at-bats, along with four home runs and one error. Lloyd went 2-3 in game two.
The Saints improved to 4-6 overall while the Scots fell to 11-5 overall. The Saints travel to Capital University for their next match-up on March 19. First pitch will be at 3:00 pm.
