Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College softball team remained undefeated in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play today (Wednesday, April 5, 2017) as it swept a doubleheader with Geneva College at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints won game one, 7-2, and the nightcap, 8-0, in five innings.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 15-7 overall and 4-0 in the PAC and the Golden Tornadoes fall to 11-1 overall and 0-4 in the PAC.
In the first game of the day, the Saints scored five runs in the first and didn't look back as they added one in the third and one in the sixth, while holding Geneva to one run in the fourth and fifth. Sophomore pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) earned the win as she pitched six innings giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits, while striking out eight. Sophomore pitcher Hannah Sprague (Bright, Ind./East Central) pitched a scoreless seventh inning, while giving up one hit.
Thomas More had 12 hits in the first game and had four Saints with multiple hits. Sophomore third baseman Whitney Quillen (Dayton, Ky./Highlands) was two-for-four with a run scored, DeDreu was two-for-four with a run scored and a run batted-in, first-year catcher Kenzie Dickerson (Union, Ky./Ryle) was two-for-three with a run scored and a RBI and first-year first baseman Andrea Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-three with two doubles, a run scored a RBI.
In the nightcap, Thomas More scored one the second and seven in the third, while holding Geneva scoreless for the 8-0 run-rule victory in five innings. Junior pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) earned the win as she pitched four innings and held Geneva scoreless, while only giving up one hit and striking out two. Sprague pitched the fifth inning and didn't allow a hit or a run.
Thomas More had three players with multiple hits as senior left fielder Kayla Fulcher (Mason, Ohio/Cincinnati Christian) was two-for-three with a double, a run scored and two RBI, DeDreu was two-for-three with a run scored and junior second baseman Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-three with a run scored a RBI.
The Saints are scheduled to return to action tomorrow when they host Denison University for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Thomas More Field.
