Box Score 2 (NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) – The Thomas More College softball team won the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) regular season outright and clinched the top-seed in next week's PAC Tournament today (Friday, April 28, 2017) as it swept a doubleheader with Westminster College at Titan Field in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. The Saints won game one, 8-0, and the nightcap, 12-8.
With the sweep, the Saints end the regular season at 32-8 overall and 18-0 in the PAC. This marks the first-time in Thomas More softball history that the Saints have gone undefeated in conference regular season play. Thomas More will host the PAC Tournament next Friday and Saturday at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Game times and the full tournament seeding will be announced by the PAC office this weekend. The sweep drops Westminster to 26-10 overall and 14-4 in the PAC.
In the first game, Thomas More scored two runs in the second, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the seventh, while holding Westminster scoreless for the 8-0 victory. Sophomore pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) earned the shutout win as she pitched seven innings giving up two hits, while striking out three.
First-year catcher Kenzie Dickerson (Union, Ky./Ryle) led the Saints at the plate as she was three-for-four with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two runs batted-in. Two other Saints had multiple hits in the game as DeDreu was three-for-four with a double, two runs scored and a RBI and first-year first baseman Andrea Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was three-for-four with a double, two runs scored and a RBI.
In the nightcap, Thomas More scored one in the first, six in the third, five in the fifth and held Westminster to one run in the second, six in the third and one in the sixth for the 12-8 victory. Sophomore pitcher Hannah Sprague (Bright, Ind./East Central) earned the win as she pitched four and two-third innings of relief and gave up one run (earned) on five hits. Junior pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) pitched two and a third innings and gave up seven runs (all earned) on seven hits.
Three Saints had multiple hits in the game as sophomore third baseman Whitney Quillen (Dayton, Ky./Highlands) was three-for-five with a double, a run scored and three RBI, junior center fielder Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) was two-for-four with a triple, two runs scored and a RBI and DeDreu was two-for-four with a run scored and a RBI.
