Box Score 2 (LATROBE, Pa.) – The Thomas More College softball team swept its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opening doubleheader with Saint Vincent today (Sunday, April 2, 2017) at the SVC Softball Field in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. The Saints won game one, 11-2, in six innings and the nightcap 6-1.
With the sweep the Saints improve to 13-7 overall and 2-0 in the PAC and the Bearcats fall to 7-9 overall and 0-2 in the PAC.
In the first game, the Saints scored two in the first inning, four in the third, one in the fifth and four in the sixth, while holding the Bearcats to one run in the first and sixth for the 11-2 victory. Sophomore pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) earned the win in the circle as she pitched five innings giving up one run (unearned) on five hits and struck out two. Sophomore Hannah Sprague (Bright, Ind./East Central) pitched the sixth inning and gave up one run (earned) on one hit.
Thomas More had five players with multiple hits in the game. Sophomore left fielder Mary Beth Odom (Taylor Mill, Ky./Dixie Heights) was three-for-three with a home run, a double, a run scored and two runs batted-in and first-year first baseman Andrea Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was three-for-three with two runs scored and a RBI. DeDreu was two-for-four with two runs scored and a RBI, first-year catcher Kenzie Dickerson (Union, Ky./Ryle) was two-for-three with a double, a run scored and a RBI and junior second baseman Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-four with two runs scored and a RBI.
In the nightcap, Thomas More scored one in the second, one in the sixth and four in the seventh, while holding Saint Vincent to a single run in the sixth for the 6-1 victory. Junior pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) earned the win as she pitched six innings giving up one run (earned) on six hits and striking out three. DeDreu pitched a scoreless seventh inning and didn't allow a hit, while striking out two.
Gahan led the team at the plate as she was three-for-four with a home run a double and one run scored. Junior center fielder Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) was two-for-three with a run scored.
Thomas More is scheduled to return to action tomorrow with a non-conference doubleheader with Denison University at 3:30 p.m. at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
