Box Score 2 (BLUFFTON, Ohio) – The Thomas More College volleyball team fell to Heidelberg University and Bluffton University today (Saturday, September 10, 2016) on the final day of the Bluffton Sommer Center Spiketacular in Bluffton, Ohio.
The Saints are now 2-5 on the season. Thomas More will host Washington & Jefferson College tomorrow (Sunday, September 11) in its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and home opener at 1 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
In the first match of the day, the Saints fell to Heidelberg by the scores of 25-19, 26-24 and 26-24. The offensive attack was led by first-year outside hitter Madison Krumpelman (Crestview Hills, Ky./Holy Cross) with 15 kills, while senior middle hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) added 10. First-year setters Alli Borders (Florence, Ky./Boone county) and Erin Fortner (Princeton, Ind./Princeton Community) paced the offensive with 26 and 11 digs respectively. Junior defensive specialist Rachel Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre) led the team in digs with 20, while Border added 14 and Krumpelman finished with 11.
In the final match of the tournament, Thomas More fell to the host Beavers by the scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-21. Borders paced the offense with 15 assists and eight kills. Bierbaum led the team in kills with nine and Krumpelman finished with seven kills. Fortner finished with 13 assists, while Bronner led the team in service aces with three. On the defensive side of the net the Saints were led by Bronner and Krumpelman with 12 digs each.
