Box Score 2 (CALVIN, Mich.) – The Thomas More College women's volleyball went 1-1 today (Friday, September 4, 2015) on the first day of the Calvin College Labor Day Weekend Invitational at Van Noord Arena in Calvin, Michigan. The Saints fell, 3-0, to No. 2-ranked Emory University and defeated John Carroll University, 3-1.
In the first match of the day, the Saints fell to Emory by the scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-17. Senior outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) led the offense with 12 kills, while sophomore setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) led the team with 19 assists. Defensively, the Saints were led by sophomore defensive specialist Rachel Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) with 18 digs.
Thomas More defeated John Carroll in the second match of the day by the scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-16. Three Saints had double-digit kills as Howell had 18, junior middle hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) had 17 and senior middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) finished with 13. Fessler paced the offense with 49 assists and added three service aces. Bronner led the defense with 15 digs.
The Saints close out the invitational tomorrow as it plays No. 23-ranked Pacific Lutheran University at 12:30 p.m. and host and No. 1-ranked Calvin at 3:30 p.m.
