Box Score (DEFIANCE, Ohio) – The Thomas More College women's lacrosse team won its first-ever match in program history today (Friday, April 17, 2015) as it defeated Defiance College, 13-5, in an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) match at Coressel Stadium in Defiance, Ohio.
With the win, the Saints improve to 1-9 overall and 1-8 in the ORLC and with the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-15 overall and 1-8 in the ORLC.
Thomas More took an early 4-0 with 18:41 to play in the first half as freshman Abby Stadtmiller (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) and sophomore Christy Smith (Washington Courthouse, Ohio/Washington) scored once and sophomore Tori Liles (Tollesboro, Ky./Lewis County) scored twice. Defiance added a goal to cut the lead to 4-1 and then Liles scored three unanswered goals to give the Saints a 7-1 lead with 5:46 to play in the match. Defiance scored with 1:39 to play in the half, but freshman Amy Rice (Somerset, Ky./Pulaski County) scored with 32-seconds to play in the half to give Thomas More an 8-2 lead at halftime.
The Saints opened the second half with five unanswered goals as Liles scored once and Stadtmiller and sophomore Josie Perrino (Tracey, Calif./St. Mary's) each scored twice to extend the lead to 13-2 with 7:31 to play in the match. Defiance scored three goals in the closing minutes, but it wasn't enough as the Saints posted the historic 13-5 win.
Freshman Mollie Mosley (St. Bernard, Ohio/McAuley) played all 60 minutes in goal and recorded seven saves to earn her first career win.
Thomas More out-shot Defiance, 28-20, and won the battle of ground balls, 28-23.
This was the Saints' final match of their inaugural season.
