Box Score 2 (KISSIMMEE, Fla.) - The Thomas More College softball team split a pair of games today (Monday, March 4, 2013) on the first day of the Rebel Spring Games as it defeated Beloit College, 9-0, but fell, 3-0, to Simpson College at the Osceola County Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Florida.
With the split, the Saints begin the season at 1-1.
In the first game of the day, the Saints scored eight runs in the first and one in the second, while they shut out Beloit for the 9-0 run-ruled victory.
Freshman pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned the win in her collegiate debut as she pitched five innings giving up only two hits, while striking out four.
At the plate, the Saints had four players with multiple hits as junior left fielder Ashley Fletcher (Lebanon, Ohio/Springboro) was two-for-three with a run scored and two runs batted-in, sophomore second baseman Hannah Curtis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) was two-for-three with a run scored and a RBI, junior first baseman Stefaney Turner (Franklin, Ohio/Carlisle) was two-for-three with a double, two runs scored and two RBI, junior third baseman Alex Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was three-for-three with a run scored and a RBI and freshman designated player Krista Summe (Forest Park, Ohio/Cincinnati Christian) was two-for-three with a run scored and a RBI.
In the second game of the day, Thomas More fell, 3-0, to Simpson.
In the circle, junior Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) suffered the loss as she pitched five plus innings and gave up three runs on five hits, while striking out five and walking three.
Offensively, Curtis and Summe each had a hit for the Saints.
Thomas More returns to action tomorrow as it plays Catholic University of America at 11 a.m. and Widener College at 1 p.m. Both games will be played on field No. 5 at the Osceola County Softball Complex in Kissimmee.
