Wells scores five goals as Saints fall to Railsplitters

(HARROGATE, TENN.) – The Thomas More University women's lacrosse team fell to Lincoln Memorial on Saturday (Feb. 21) evening by a score of 15-10. The Saints fall to 1-1 on the season.
 
How they scored
  • The whole game was highlighted by both teams going on scoring runs, but Lincoln Memorial started the game with three unanswered goals in the first six minutes of play.
  • The Saints then scored three to tie the game. The first two goals were unassisted and scored by junior Alex Nunn (Loveland, OH / Loveland) and junior Anna Wells (West Chester, OH / Lakota West). Anna Wells then capitalized on a man-up situation to score with an assist from sophomore Brynn Halbeisen (Cincinnati, OH / Walnut Hills).
  • The Railsplitters scored two goals before halftime to take a 5-3 lead before they scored the first goal of the second half.
  • Combined the two teams scored 11 goals in the third quarter.
  • Alex Nunn passed the ball to Anna Wells for the Saints first goal of the second half at the 8:23 mark before a Lincoln Memorial goal.
  • Thomas More then scored five goals in a just over four minutes of game play and four of them came in man-up scenarios. Anna Wells added her final two goals of the game, with one coming off the pass from sophomore Elina Emmons (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield).
  • Senior Meg Pierani (Lawrenceburg, IN / Mercy McAuley) had a man-up goal and a goal with an assist from Anna Wells which gave the Saints their first lead of the game.
  • Freshman Lali Ramierz (Chula Vista, CA / Castle Park) also scored on a man-up situation to put Thomas More up 9-8 with 2:15 remaining in the quarter. It was her first collegiate goal.
  • A Lincoln Memorial five-goal run that stretched from the end of the third quarter and into the fourth quarter gave the home team a 13-9 lead.
  • Meg Pierani scored the final goal for the Saints with 5:06 remaining in the game.
 
  • Anna Wells had five goals off 13 shots and an assist. She also picked up 4 ground balls and caused 4 Lincoln Memorial turnovers.
  • Meg Pierani had three goals on 10 shots.
  • Alex Nunn had a goal, five ground balls, caused 5 turnovers and had 6 draw controls.
  • Lali Ramirez had 1 goal on 1 shot.
  • In the net, freshman Brooklyn Thatcher (Cincinnati, OH / Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) had 6 saves.
 

The Saints will travel to Lebanon, Illinois to take on McKendree University next Saturday (Feb. 28). The game is scheduled to start at 1 PM ET (12 PM CT).
