Baseball Wins Big Over Miami-Hamilton

Box Score (FLORENCE, Ky.)-Thomas More University's baseball team defeated Miami-Hamilton 17-6 on Tuesday afternoon (April 22). The Saints overall record improves to 14-26 and 7-16 in conference.

How they scored
  •  First year Miguel Correa Jr. (Avon, Ind. / Avon) hit a triple to right center to send in senior AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) to get the Saints on the board 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Junior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio / LaSalle) singled to center field to score Miguel Correa Jr. to make it a 2-0 game. Gunner Kalkhoff would then score on a wild pitch to put the Saints up 3-0.
  • In the bottom of the second, senior Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) and senior Derek Marinucci (Canton, Mich./Divine Child) both scored off an error by the short stop to extend the lead to 5-0. Gunner Kalkhoff singled to left field to score AJ Enginger to make it a 6-0 game.
  • Miami-Hamilton scored two runs in the top of the third (6-3).
  • AJ Enginger singled to right center in the bottom of the third to send in sophomore Matt Resing (Independence, Ky./St.Henry) to put the Saints up 7-2. First year Chad Atchley (Peach Grove, Ky./Simon Kenton) walked in on a bases load walk (8-2). Ben Duncan walked in on a bases load walk after Gunner Kalkhoff was hit by a pitch to make it a 9-2 game. AJ Enginger scored on a bases load walk to extend the lead to 10-2. Matt Resing singled to center field to extend the inning with two outs to advance Gunner Kalkhoff and Miguel Correa Jr. home to score (12-2).
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, Chad Atchley scored off an error by the third basemen to make it a 13-2 game.
  • Miami-Hamilton scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning (13-5).
  • Ben Duncan and AJ Enginer would be score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth to make ita 15-5 game. Senior Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) scored off a fielder's choice hit by first year Nolan McLane (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) to extend the lead 16-5. Junior Riley Poston (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) singled through the right side to advance home Migeul Correa Jr. (17-5).
  • Miami-Hamilton scored one run in the top of the seventh (17-6).
  • First year Logan Cones (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs off three hits and struck out seven.
  • Senior George Donohoe (Villia Hills, Ky./Immaculate Conception) pitched 1.0 innings, allowing three earned runs of four hits.
