(MIDWAY, Ky.) – The Thomas More University softball team split their doubleheader with the Midway University Eagles Tuesday afternoon on the road, losing game one 7-6 and bouncing back with an 8-1 win in game two. The Saints are now 7-3 this season.
Game 1: Midway defeats Thomas More, 7-6
- The Eagles scored three in the top of the first to take a 3-0 lead.
- The Saints used some two-out magic in the third inning to grab their first run.
- Senior Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) hit a single to keep the inning alive, before a Maclai Branson (Union, Ky./Ryle) double to right center field brought in McAdoo to cut the lead to 3-1.
- Thomas More took a 4-3 lead in the fifth.
- Two Saints hit singles to put runners at first and second before McAdoo blasted her first homerun this season to left-center field to give Thomas More the lead.
- The Saints took advantage of Eagles' mistakes in the sixth to score a pair of insurance runs (6-3) heading into the bottom of the inning.
- Unfortunately for Thomas More, a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh inning doomed the Saints, as they fell 7-6.
Game 2: Thomas More defeats Midway, 8-1
- Both teams scored a single run over the first six innings.
- Branson hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) in the third inning.
- In the seventh, the Saints scored seven runs.
- McAdoo hit a double to bring in a run before scoring herself on a wild pitch.
- First-year Sophia Thoma (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor) hit a two-RBI single.
- Becca Mowen (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) put the cherry on top with a three-run home run to right center field to give Thomas More an 8-1 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Game 1:
- Branson led the team with three hits, while also gathering an RBI.
- McAdoo, Sydney Bledsoe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), and Kaylee Beal (Bright, Ind./East Central) all had two hits in the contest, while also scoring two runs.
- McAdoo led the team with three RBI.
Game 2:
- McAdoo, Karys Black, and Elbe all had two hits for Thomas More.
- Mowen led the team with three RBI, while Thoma had two.
Game 1:
- Sophomore Emma Kent (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) pitched three innings in the circle, allowing three runs on two hits. She struck out a pair of Eagles.
- Senior Emily Wisman (Okeana, Ohio/Harrison) tossed 3.2 innings, allowing four runs and striking out two.
Game 2:
- Junior Cassidy King (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne/Edison State Community College) threw a complete game, allowing just one run and striking out five.
The Saints are right back on the field tomorrow at Ohio Christian University for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Saints beat the Trailblazers twice during the 2021 season.
