Softball Sweeps Bethel (Tenn.) on Day One of Series

(MCKENZIE, Tenn.)-Thomas More University's softball team swept Bethel (Tenn.) on Friday (March 10) 8-3 in game one and 8-4 in game two. The Saints overall record improves to 9-5 and 5-2 in conference. 

How they scored

Game 1: Thomas More 8-3
  • Sophomore transfer Karys Black (Burlington, Ky./Boone County) hit a three-run homer in the top of the first inning to score graduate student transfer Maclai Branson (Union, Ky./Ryle) and senior Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) to put the Saints on the board 3-0.
  • Bethel would score one run in the bottom of the second inning (3-1).
  • Junior transfer Josie Wefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) hit a home run to left field to send in first year Sophia Thoma (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor) to give the Saints a 5-1 lead in the top of the fifth.
  • Bethel score two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning (5-3).
  • Karys Black would hit her second home run of the game in the top of the seventh inning to send in Maclai Branson to extend the Saints lead to 7-3. First year Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) would score off a single hit by senior Becca Mowen (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) to put the Saints up 8-3.
Game 2: Thomas More 8-4
  • Bethel scored one run in the bottoms of the first and one run in the bottom of the second inning (0-2).
  • Hailey McAdoo hit a fielder's choice to send in junior Kai Dickerson (Walton, Ky./Ryle) in the top of the third inning (1-2). Senior Sydney Bledsoe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) would score from a fielder's choice hit by Karys Black and Hailey McAdoo would advance home off of an error by the third baseman to give the Saints a 3-2 lead. Next up, Maclai Branson would score off of a fielding error by the shortstop from a hit ball by Delaney Kemper (4-2). Becca Mowen doubled down the left field line to score Delaney Kemper and Karys Black to extend the Saints lead to 6-2 in the top of the third inning. 
  • Bethel scored one run in the bottom of the third (6-3).
  • In the top of the fourth inning, Hailey McAdoo singled up the middle to score Sydney Bledsoe to make it a 7-3 game. 
  • Delaney Kemper scored on the throw in the top of the fifth from a hit ball by Sophia Thoma (8-3).
  • Bethel scored one run un the bottom of the fifth inning (8-4).


Game 1: Game 2:


Game 1:
  • Sophomore Emma Kent (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) pitched 3 innings, giving up one earned run off of four hits and strucknout four.
  • Senior Emily Wisman (Okeana, Ohio/Harrison) pitched 1.1 innings, giving up two earned runs off of two hits and struck out one.
  • Senior Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched 2.2 innings, giving up zero and zero hits, and struck out five.
Game 2:
  • Junior Cassidy Black (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) pitched 5 innings, giving up four earned runs off of seven hits and struck out one.
  • Annika Gels pitched 2 innings, giving up one run off of two hits.
