#1 Women's Basketball Defeats Wilberforce Behind 12 Three Pointers

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The top-ranked Thomas More women's basketball team defeats Wilberforce by a score of 90 to 44 on Saturday (February 4th). The Saints improve to an overall record of 23-1, and a Mid South Conference record of 17-1.

• Senior Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Davidson) got the Saints going with a layup to give Thomas More a 2-0 lead.
• Senior Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky. / Conner) knocks down her first of four three pointers in the half to stretch the early Saints lead.
• A jumper from junior Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio / Roger Bacon) and two layups from junior Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio / Summit Country Day) pushes the Thomas More lead to 9 at the end of the first quarter.
• First year Rylee Turner (Newport, Ky. / Newport Central Catholic) got the Saints started again in the second quarter with a layup off an assist from junior Sammi Whiteman (Covington, Ohio / Covington).
• Courtney Hurst hits two three pointers along with a layup from senior Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky. / Highlands) to take give Thomas More a 17 point halftime lead.
• Thomas More led at the break 36 to 19.
• Courtney Hurst led the Saints with 12 first half points.
• Emily Simon had 7 points to go with 3 rebounds.
• Zoie Barth had 4 assists in the first half.
• The Saints shot 14 for 31 from the field in the opening half.

• Courtney Hurst makes her 5th three pointer of the contest to open up the second half for the Saints and giving Thomas More a 20 point lead.
• Emily Simon finds Courtney Hurst for another three pointer at the mid point of the third quarter as the Saints lead 53 to 23.
• Back to back threes from Kelly Brenner closes out the third quarter as Thomas More leads 67 to 34.
• First year Natalie Noel (Salem Ind. / Salem) knocks down a three pointer and scores 10 points throughout the forth quarter for the Saints.
• First year Jenna Lillard (Ludlow, Ky. / Ludlow) makes a three pointer with 3 minutes to go to stretch the Saints lead to 42.
• First Year Alyssa Elswick (Pikeville, Ky. / Shelby Valley) score 5 points in the closing minutes for the Saints. 
• Thomas More wins 90 to 44.
• The Saints made 12 of 27 three pointers on the day. 
• The Saints shot 35 for 65 from the field.

• Courtney Hurst led the Saints with 18 points. Making 6 three pointers on the day.
• Kelly Brenner finished with 13 points to go along with 4 rebounds.
• Emily Simon finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds.
• Natalie Noel had 10 points in the contest.
• Zoie Barth led the team with 8 assists to go along with 6 points and 3 rebounds.

 

Thomas More is back in action on Thursday (February, 9th) as the Saints take on Bethel (Tenn.) at the Connor Convocation Center. Tip-off set for 5:30pm ET.
