Softball Splits Day Two Double Header to Close Out Regular Season

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)-Thomas More University softball team split their day two series against Pikeville, winning 8-0 in 5-innings in game one and falling 8-0 in game two. The Saints finish their regular season with an overall record of 17-27 and 11-20 in conference. 

Game 1: Thomas More 8-0 in 5-innings

  • In the bottom of the second inning, junior Mattison Fisher (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) doubled to score senior Adrian Marquez (Rushville, Ind./Rushville Consolidated) and first year Emma Kent (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) to put the Saints on the board 2-0. Junior Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) would singled to send in Mattison Fisher to make it a 3-0 game. 
  • Sophomore Sarah Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) and senior Baylee Hobeika (Colerain, Ohio/Colerain) would both score on an overthrow error by the catcher during a run down between home and third from a fielder's choice hit by Emma Kent (5-0) in the bottom of the third. Mattison Fisher would hit a back to back double to send in Emma Kent (6-0).
  • Senior Elana Harrison (Mason, Ohio/Mason) hit a home run over the right center fence to extend the lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Hailey McAdoo would single to score senior Taylor Peterson (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game on a 8-0 run rule.

Game 2: Pikeville 8-0 

  • Pikeville scored two runs in the third, three runs in the fourth inning, two runs in the fifth, and one run in the seventh (8-0).

  • Junior right-handed pitcher Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched 5.0 innings, giving up no runs off four hits, and struck out eight.

Game 2:

  • Annika Gels pitched 3 innings, giving up two earned runs off four hits, and struck out three.
  • Junior left-handed pitcher Emily Wisman (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) pitched 0.1 innings, giving up two earned runs of. four hits.
  • Junior right-handed pitcher Hannah Bishop (Union, Ky./Ryle) pitched 1.2 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) off three hits, and struck out one.
  • Emma Kent pitched 2 innings, giving up one earned run off two hits.

The Saints return to the field next week as the compete in the Mid-South Conference Tournament with information to come.
