Softball Sweeps Pikeville in Day One of Games

(CRESTVIEW HILL, Ky.)-Thomas More University softball team defeated Pikeville on Friday (April 22) to get the sweep of day one games with the scores of 8-2 in game one and 10-4 in game two. The Saints overall record improves to 18-26 and 10-19 in conference.

Game 1: Thomas More 8-2

  • Pikeville scored two runs in the top of the first inning (0-2).
  • Graduate student Valerie Hudepohl (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) scored from a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fourth inning (1-2). Senior Lauren Taylor (Reading, Ohio/Mt. Notre Dame) would step up to the plate next and single to score sophomore Sarah Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) to tie the game up at 2-2. Senior Adrian Marquez (Rushville, Ind./Rushville Consolidated) would then hit a sac fly to right field to send in senior Baylee Hobeika (Colerain, Ohio/Colerain) to give the Saints the go ahead lead (3-2). First year Emma Kent (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) would advance home to score on a bases loaded walk to make it a 4-2 game. Junior Caitlin Dawson (Georgetown, Ky./Georgetown) singled to score Lauren Taylor to extend the Saints lead to 5-2. Valerie Hudpohl would step up to the plate for the second time in the inning for a RBI ground out to the shortstop to score junior Mattison Fisher (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) for the Saints final run of the inning (6-2).
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, senior Elana Harrison (Mason, Ohio/Mason) doubled to score Valerie Hudepohl to put the Saints up 7-2. Emma Kent would then step up and single to send in Elana Harrison (8-2).

Game 2: Thomas More 10-4

  • Baylee Hobeika doubled in the bottom of the second inning to score Elana Harrison to put the Saints on the board 1-0. Adrian Maruqez would single to center field to send home Baylee Hobeika to extend the lead to 2-0. Mattison Fisher would hit an RBI unassisted ground out to first to score Emma Kent (3-0).
  • Pikeville scored three runs in the top of the third inning to tie the game up at 3-3.
  • Elana Harrison hit an infield single to send in Caitlin Dawson in the bottom of the third inning to help the Saints regain the lead once again (4-3). Emma Kent would step up to the plate and hit a sac fly to left field to score Valerie Hudepohl to extend the Saints lead to 5-3.
  • Pikeville scored one run in the top of the fourth inning (5-4).
  • Adrian Marquez homered in the top bottom of the fourth inning to make it a 6-4 game. Caitlin Dawson would score on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 7-4.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, Emma Kent would single to centerfield to score Sarah Caruso to make it a 8-4 game. Lauren Taylor would ground out into a double play to send in Baylee Hobeika to extend the Saints lead to 9-4.
  • Caitlin Dawson hit a single to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning to score Hailey McAdoo (10-4).

Game 1:

Game 2:

  • Elana Harrison went 3-3 with a double, one RBI, and scored one run.
  • Emma Kent was 1-1 with two RBIs and scored one run.
  • Caitlin Dawson was 3-4 with a triple, one RBI, and scored two runs.
  • Baylee Hobeika went 2-3 at the plate with a double, tone RBI and scored two runs.
  • Adrian Marquez was 2-3 with a homerun, two RBIs, and scored one run.

Game 1:

  • Junior right handed pitcher Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched 7 innings, giving up two unearned runs off six hits, and struck out three.

Game 2:

  • Emma Kent pitched 3 innings to get the win, giving up three earned runs off four hits.
  • Junior left handed pitcher Emily Wisman (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) pitched 4 innings getting the save, giving up one run off two hits, and struck out one. 

The Saints return to the field tomorrow for senior day and close out their series against Pikeville in a double header beginning at 12:00 pm ET.
