Softball Sweeps Asbury with Late Comeback in Game Two

(WILMORE, Ky.)-Thomas More University softball swept Asbury in their series on Monday (April 18), winning game one 8-2 and game two 7-4. The Saints overall record improves to 14-26.

Game 1: THOMAS MORE: 8-2

  • Sophomore Sarah Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the second inning to put the Saints on the board 1-0. Senior Baylee Hobeika (Colerain, Ohio/Colerain) would score on a bases loaded walk to extend the team's lead to 2-0. Junior Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) would single to send in senior Adrian Marquez (Rushville, Ind./Rushville Consolidated) and senior Lauren Taylor (Reading, Ohio/Mt. Notre Dame) to make it a 4-0 gane. Junior Mattison Fisher (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) would score on a wild pitch (5-0). Junior Caitlin Dawson (Georgetown, Ky./Scott) grounded out to second to send in Hailey McAdoo for the Saints final run of the inning (6-0).
  • In the top of the fifth inning, senior Elana Harrison (Mason, Ohio/Mason) doubled to score graduate student Valerie Hudepohl (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) to put the Saints up 7-0. First Emma Kent (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) hit a sac fly to send in Elana Harrison (8-0). 
  • Asbury would score one run in the bottom of the fifth inning and one run in the bottom of the seventh (8-2).

  • Junior pitcher Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched 7.0 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) off seven hits, and struck out eight.

Game 2:

  • Emma Kent pitched 3.0 innings, giving up four runs (one earned) off three hits.
  • Sophomore Cassidy King (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) pitched 4.0 innings, giving up no runs off four hits, and struck out two.

 The Saints return to the field this weekend (April 22) to face Pikeville in their regular season closer on Thomas More Field in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm ET.
