Box Score Crestview Hills, Ky. - The softball program at Thomas More split with the #15 ranked Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett on Friday evening winning 4-3 and falling 13-2. With the split the Saints move to 10-15 on the year.
Game One: Thomas More wins 4-3.
- Senior outfielder Baylee Hobeika (Colerain, Ohio/Colerain) got the scoring started in the bottom of the second with a two-run no doubt home run with junior Sarah Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) coming in to score as well to take a 2-0 lead.
- Junior Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) would hit a double to capoff the scoring in the bottom of the second for Thomas More driving in Chloe Woeste (Cincinnati, Ohio / Colerain) and Madison Vaughn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) to take a 4-0 lead.
- Georgia Gwinnett would score a run in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 4-1.
- The Grizzlies would try to rally, but would just come up short in the top of the seventh only driving two runs across in the inning to make the final 4-3 in favor of the Saints.
- Hobeika went one-for-three at the dish with two rbi's, a run scored, and a home run.
- McAdoo batted .500 for the game, picking up a double with two runs batted in.
- Caitlin Dawson (Georgetown, Ky./Scott County) picked up a hit in three plate appearances.
- Junior pitcher Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched a complete game, allowing three unearned runs on seven hits while striking out six.
Game two: Georgia Gwinnett wins 13-2.
- Georgia Gwinnett would take an earely 10-0 lead in the top of the first.
- In the bottom of the first Hobeika would reach base on an error to score first-year Emma Kent (Hamilton, Ohio / Badin) to cut the deficit to 10-1.
- Junior Hannah Bishop (Union, Ky./Ryle) would hit a single to score Elana Harrison (Mason, Ohio/Mason) from third.
- The Grizzlies would add two runs in the top of the third to extend their lead to 12-2.
- Gwinnett would add their final run in the top of the fourth to bring the final to 13-2.
- Kent collected one hit in two plate appearances with a run scored.
- Junior Kai Dickerson (Walton, Ky. / Ryler) collected a single in her lone plate appearance.
- Bishop went one-for-two in the game with an rbi.
- Kent pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing four unearned runs on two hits.
- Sophomore Cassidy King (Huber Heights, Ohio / Wayne) pitched one inning allowing two runs on three hits.
- Sophomore Emily Wisman (Okeana, Ohio / Harrison) threw two innings allowing one run on three hits.
Softball will return to the diamond on Sunday, March 28 when they travel to Rio Grande, Ohio to take on Rio Grande at 3 p.m. ET.
