Box Score 2 Crestview Hills, Ky. - The softball program at Thomas More defeated Bethel in Both games on day two of their conference double headers by scores of 6-5 and 10-9. With the win the Saints improve to 8-13 on the year and 6-10 in MSC play and they also clinched the series against Bethel.
Game one: Thomas More won 6-5.
- A single by the Wildcats in the top of the first would give them an early 1-0 lead.
- Senior center fielder Baylee Hobeika (Colerain, Ohio/Colerain) would hit a single in the bottom of the first to score Sarah Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) to tie the game at one all.
- Bethel would once again take the lead in the top of the second via an error to make the score 2-1 after two.
- Thomas More would score in the bottom of the fourth as junior Mattison Fisher (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) would hit a double off the fence to score junior Sydney Bledsoe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) from second to tie the game at two.
- The Saints would add one more run in the inning to take their first lead of the game as Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mercy McAuley) would put a ball in play that would see Fisher advance home for a 3-2 lead.
- Bethel would gain a run in the top of the fifth via a home run to tie the game at three.
- Senior catcher Adrian Marquez (Rushville, Ind./Rushville Consolidated) would add a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth via a single to re-take the lead at 5-3.
- The Wildcats would mount a comeback by scoring two runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game at five all.
- Thomas More would show resiliency once again as McAdoo would drive Fisher home in the bottom of the sixth and they would hold on for a 6-5 win.
- Fisher would go a perfect three-for-three from the dish with two runs scored and an rbi.
- McAdoo would bat .500 for the game with two singles and an rbi.
- Marquez would go one-for-three from the plate with a pair of runs batted in.
- Hobeika went one-for-three in the game with one rbi.
- Junior pitcher Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched seven complete innings allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out five.
Game two: Thomas More would score four runs in the bottom of the sixth to come back and win 10-9.
- Bethel would once again get on the scoreboard first in the game with three runs pushed across in the first inning.
- Thomas More would add a run in the bottom of the first as junior Caitlin Dawson (Georgetown, Ky./Scott) would score on a wild pitch, to cut into the lead at 3-1.
- In the top of the second the Wildcats would add a pair of runs to take a 5-1 lead.
- Lauren Taylor would hit a single in the bottom of the second that would see Marquez score on an error to cut the lead down to 5-2.
- Senior Elana Harrison (Mason, Ohio/Mason) would hit a moon shot home run in the bottom of the third to drop the lead to 5-3 in favor of Bethel.
- In the top of the fourth the Wildcats would get a run back to extend their lead to 6-3.
- In the bottom of the fourth McAdoo would double to score Fisher from first to make the score 6-4.
- Bethel would add two runs in the top of the fifth to grow their lead back to four.
- Thomas More would show their grit as Hobeika would single into right field, scoring Madison Vaughn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) from third to make the score 8-5.
- Junior Hannah Bishop (Union, Ky./Ryle) would hit a sac fly to score Caruso to make it a two score game at 8-6.
- The Wildcats would add a run in the top of the sixth to extend their lead back to three.
- Vaughn would get walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, walking home Fisher from third to make the score 9-7 (BU).
- Harrison would prove to have the clutch gene as she would score McAdoo on a single to make it a one score game.
- Hobeika would pick a huge bases loaded walk on a 3-2 count to tie the game up at nine all.
- Marquez would deliver the biggest at bat of the night as she would single to score Vaughn from third for a 10-9 lead.
- Harrison went three-for-four in the game with one run scored, two rbi's, and a home run.
- Hobeika was two-for-two in the game with two runs batted in and drew a crucial walk.
- McAdoo went two-for-four from the dish with two rbi's and a run scored.
- Dawson also collected two hits in four plate appearances with two runs scored.
- Marquez notched two hits in four plate appearances with one run batted in and one run scored.
- Bishop threw for six innings allowing eight earned runs on twelve hits while striking out four to earn the win.
- Gels came in the game in relief and earned the save allowing no runs on zero hits while striking out one in one inning pitched.
Softball was scheduled to have a double header with Midway tomorrow, March 21 but that has been postponed until a later date.
