Box Score 2 Pulaski, Tenn. - The softball program at Thomas More fell to the Firehawks of Tennessee Southern on Thursday, March 10 by scores of 6-3 and 11-3. With the losses the Saints fall to to 2-11 on the season and 2-8 in Mid-South Conference play.
Game one: UT Southern won by a 6-3 score.
- Tennessee Southern scored the first four runs in the game and would take a 4-0 lead into the fourth.
- Thomas More scored in the top of the fourth as Lauren Taylor (Reading, Ohio / Mount Notre Dame) was hit by a pitch to score Sarah Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) from third to bring the score to 4-1.
- First-year Emma Kent (Hamilton, Ohio / Badin) would double in the top of the sixth to score Taylor and Caitlin Dawson (Georgetown, Ky. / Scott County) to bring the Saints within one (4-3).
- The Firehawks would score the final two runs of the game in the bottom of the six to win 6-3.
- Graduate Valerie Hudepohl (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) went two-for-four from the dish with a stolen base.
- Kent went one-for-one from the plate with two runs batted in.
- Senior Baylee Hobeika (Colerain, Ohio/Colerain) batted .333 for the game with a run scored and a stolen base.
- Mattison Fisher (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) collected one hit in two plate appearances.
- Junior Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) threw 5 1/3 innings allowing four runs of 11 hits.
- Junior Hannah Bishop (Union, Ky. / Ryle) pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs on no hits.
Game two: UT Southern won 11-3.
- The Firehawks would score the first four runs of the game in the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead heading into the third.
- Thomas More would strike in the third inning as Sydney Bledsoe (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) would double to score Elana Harrison (Mason, Ohio/Mason), Kent, and Dawson to make the score 4-3.
- UT Southern added a run in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 5-3.
- The Firehawks added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to move their lead to 9-3.
- UT Southern added their final two runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth to bring the final to 11-3.
- Dawson went two-for-three from the plate with a run scored.
- Senior catcher Adrian Marquez (Rushville, Ind./) added two hits in three plate appearances.
- Bledsoe went one-for-three from the dish with three rbi's.
- Sophomore Cassidy King (Huber Heights, Ohio / Wayne) pitched 3 1/3 innings pitched allowing four runs on five hits.
- Bishop threw for 1 2/3 innings allowing five runs on eight hits.
Softball will return to the diamond tomorrow, March 11 when they complete their four game series with UT Southern in Pulaski, Tennessee at 3 p.m. ET.
