Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 2 Women's Basketball Defeat Bethel on Senior Day

  • Crestview Hills, Ky. - The women's basketball team at Thomas More took down Bethel University by a score of 89-58. With the win the Saints improve to 23-3 overall and 16-2 in the Mid-South Conference.-

 

  • Senior guard Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) started out the game with the hot hand as the senior would score the first five points to put Thomas More up 5-0.
  • Senior guard Heaven Evans (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Cristo Del ) two big three-pointers in the first quarter to give the Saints a 17-7 with 4:49 to go in the quarter.
  • Sophomore Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) ended the first half with an offensive rebound and a layup to make the score 29-14 after one.
  • Junior Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) opened up the second quarter by driving past her defender to push the lead to 31-14.
  • Junior Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) would extend the lead to 18 with an up and under with just over six to go in the second.
  • Secrist would end the half with a layup via a feed from Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) to make the score 56-31 heading into the locker room.

  • Graduate student Alexah Chrisman (Greendale, Ind./McAuley) would feed Simon on a bounce pass to make the score 59-37 with 6:35 to go in the third.
  • Smith would give Thomas More their biggest lead of the night with a three ball off a feed from Simon to grow the lead to 27.
  • Chrisman would close out the third from the charity stripe to give the Saints a 65-51 lead after three.
  • Clos would start the fourth with how she played most of the game with a three-pointer this time off an assist from sophomore guard Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) to make the score 70-51 with just under nine to go in regulation.
  • Chrisman would grab an offensive rebound with five minutes to go and put the ball right back up for a 80-53 lead.
  • Sophomore guard Sammi Whiteman (Covington, Ohio/Covington) would close out the game with the final five points of the game to bring the final score to 89-58.

  • Clos led the team in scoring with a season high 25 points with four rebounds.
  • Chrisman would lead the team in rebounding with 10 and also collected two blocks.
  • Simon finished with eight points, five assists, and four rebounds.
  • Thomas More shot 29-65 (44.6%) from the field.
  • Outrebounded Bethel 42-49.

Women's basketball will return to the court on Thursday, February 17 where they will host Georgetown College in their final home match of the year at 6 p.m. ET.
