Crestview Hills, Ky. - The women's basket program at Thomas More defeated the University of Pikeville Bears by a score of 80-43. With the win the Saints improve to 24-3 on the year and 17-2 in Mid-South Conference play.
- Senior guard Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) started the game with a layup to give Thomas More the early 2-0 lead.
- Sophomore guard Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) would knock down back-to-back three-pointers on consecutive possessions to give the Saints a 12-10 lead with 1:34 left in the first quarter.
- Sophomore forward Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) would end the first quarter with a layup via a pass from Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott).
- Smith would return the favor to start the second quarter as she would set up a give and go with Secrist to increase the lead to 16-10.
- Graduate forward Alexah Chrisman (Greendale, Ind./McAuley) would give Thomas More a 12 point lead with a layup off a Clos assist with 5:18 remaining in the half.
- Junior guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) would score 12 points over the final 1:12 of the second quarter with three threes to give the Saints a lead of 41-38 heading into the locker rooms.
- Sophomore Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) would extend the lead to 23 as she would drive past her defender for the layup with 8:17 to go in the third.
- Smith would grow the lead to 52-27 with a three-pointer off a feed from sophomore guard Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) with just under five to go in the third.
- With 38 seconds to go in the third period Secrist would close out the scoring with a free throw to bring the score to 55-33.
- In the fourth Martin would get the long ball going as she would open up the quarter with a three via a Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) assist to make the score 59-33.
- Chrisman converted an old fashioned three-point play with a hook shot with 4:18 remaining in regulation with the score 72-40.
- Sophomore guard Sammi Whiteman closed out the game with a jump shot from Kenzie Schwarber's pass from the block to bring the final to 80-43.
- Clos and Chrisman led the team in score with 14 and 13 points respectively.
- Chrisman and Hurst both collected eight rebounds in the win.
- Barth and Clos led the team in assist with five and four.
- Chrisman and Martin led on the defensive end with Chrisman's three blocks and Martin's three steals.
- Outrebounded Pikeville by a 45-35 margin.
- Assisted on 17 of 32 made baskets.
Women's basketball will return to the court on Thursday, February 17 for their home finale when they take on Georgetown at 6 p.m. ET.
