(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)-#1 Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated Shawnee State on Tuesday evening (Feb. 1), 106-51 . The Saints overall record improves to 22-0 and 14-0 in conference.
- Junior Zoie Barth (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) scored the first eight points for the Saints and started the team's 21-0 run over the Bears.
- Sophomore Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) hit her fourth 3-point shot of the game for the Saints final basket of the first quarter (30-6).
- With 7:43 to play in the first half, sophomore transfer Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) would drain a 3-point shot to start the scoring off for the Saints in the second quarte (33-8).
- Graduate student Alexah Chrisman (Greendale, Ind./McAuley) would drive to the rim for a layup from the Saints finals point of the first half.
- The Saints would go into the locker room with a lead of 51-19.
- Brenner would lead the Saints with 12 points and had one rebound.
- Barth would follow with 11 points, two assists, and three rebounds.
- Sophomore Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) would lead the team with four assists and had one rebound.
- Chrisman and junior Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) would both lead the team defensively with six rebounds each.
- The Saints were 48.6% (18-37) from the field, 34.8% (8-23) from the 3-point line, and 63.6% (7-11) from the free throw line in the first half.
- Chrisman would make a layup to start the second half off for the Saints to extend the lead to 53-21 with 9:15 to play in the third quarter.
- Martin drove to the basket for a layup for the final basket of the third quarter to give the Saints a 79-29 lead.
- With 9:16 to play in the game, Smith drove to the rim for a layup to make it a 84-32 game.
- Sophomore Mattison Vickers (Covington, Ky./Simon Kenton) made the final basket of the game with a 3-point jump shot to secure the Saints 106-51 win over the Bears.
- Junior transfer Sammi Whiteman (Covington, Ky./Covington) led the Saints in the second half with eight points and had one rebound.
- Smith followed with seven points, two rebounds, and one assist.
- Hurst tallied three rebounds to lead the team in the second half and had six points and two assists.
- Chrisman also had three rebounds to lead the team and put up seven points and one assist.
- Vickers brought down three rebounds in the second half to lead the team defensively in rebounds too and had four points.
- Schwarber led the Saints with three assists.
- The Saints were 56.8% (21-37) from the field, 45% (9-20) from the 3-point line, and 66.7% (4-6) from the free throw line in the second half.
- Brenner led the Saints with 16 points and had one rebound.
- Junior Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) followed with 14 points and five rebounds.
- Barth tallied 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
- Smith had 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one block.
- Chrisman led the Saints defensively with nine rebounds and had 13 points, three assists, and two blocks.
- Simon recorded six rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
- Martin and junior Kenzie Schwarber (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) both led the Saints with five assists.
- The Saints were 52.7% (39-72) from the field, 39.5% (17-43) from the 3-point line, and 64.7% (11-17) from the free throw line.
The Saints return to the court on Thursday (Feb. 3) to take on the Pikeville Bears at 6:00 pm ET in the Connor Convocation Center.
