#1 Women's Basketball Dominate Life in 72-37 Win

(MARIETTA, Ga.)-#1 Thomas More University women's Basketball defeated Life 72-37 on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 29) to improve their overall record to 20-1 and 13-0 in conference.

  • Senior Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) kicked off the scoring for the Saints, draining a 3-point shot with 9:41 to play in the first quarter to get the Saints on the board (3-0).
  • Sophomore Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) would make a 3-point shot with 3:27 to play in the quarter to extend the Saints lead to 15-7.
  • Sophomore transfer Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) made the final basket of the quarter with a 3-pointer to give the Saints a 19-7 lead going into the second quarter.
  • To start off the second quarter, sophomore Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) would hit a 3-point shot with 9:18 to play in the first half (22-7).
  • Graduate student Alexah Chrisman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) drove to the basket for a layup for the final basket for the Saints for the first half.
  • The Saints would lead 39-16 going into the locker room.
  • The Saints were 50% (16-32) from the field and 35.7% (5-14) from the 3-point line in the first half.

  • Chrisman would start the second half off for the Saints, making a layup with 9:27 on the clock to put the Saints up 41-16.
  • Sophomore Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) would swish in a 3-point basket to extend the Saints lead to 50-22 with 3:23 to play in the third quarter.
  • Smith would make the final basket of the quarter with a jump shot, to give the Saints a 53-22 lead going into the final quarter.
  • Junior Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) kicked the quarter off with a layup for the Saints with 7:57 to play in the game (55-26).
  • With 5:40 to play in the game, junior Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) hit a 3-point basket to make it a 64-29 game.
  • Junior transfer Sammi Whiteman (Covington, Ky./Covington) would make the final basket of the game for the Saints with a layup to close out the scoring for the Saints and to secure the team's 72-37 win over the Running Eagles.
  • The Saints were 41.4% (12-29) from the field, 38.5% (5-13) from the 3-point line, and 44.4% (4-9) from the free throw line in the second half.

  • Hurst led the Saints with 13 points and had three rebounds and one assist.
  • Close led the Saints with eight assists and had three rebounds and nine points.
  • Chrisman led the team defensively bringing down eight rebounds and eight blocks, she also had one assist and six points.
  • Simon followed with nine points, seven rebounds, and one assist.
  • Junior Kenzie Schwarber (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) tallied five points, four assists, and one rebound.
  • The Saints were 45.9% (28-61) from the field, 37% (10-27) from the 3-point line, and 54.5% (6-11) from the free throw line.

Next up, the Saints return home Tuesday (Feb. 1) in the Connor Convocation Center to take on Shawnee State on 6:00 pm ET.
