Baseball Takes Down UC Clermont 12-6

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)- Thomas More's baseball team took down UC Clermont on Tuesday (April 6) 12-6. The Saints overall record improves to 17-17.

  • To start things off for the Saints, Casey Nowak scored off of Bailey Martin's single to the shortstop in the bottom of the 1st inning.  Brady Reynolds would hit a sac fly to left to send in Derek Atwood to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. 
  • In the bottom of the 2nd, Nowak would single to left-center to send in  Cooper Daniels to extend their lead to 3-0. Nowak would then score from Atwood's single to center (4-0). To finish up the scoring for the inning, Gavin Pearson hit an RBI single to deep-right center to score Atwood (5-0).
  • The Cougars would score five runs in the top of the 4th to tie things up 5-5.
  • The Saints would retaliate back in the bottom of the 4th scoring four runs to put them ahead once again (9-5). Martin singled to center to score Atwood to make it a 6-5 game. Martin would score off an error on the Cougars from a hard hit ball by Jacob Caruso (7-5).  Brett Benzinger finished the big scoring inning up hitting a single to center to score Reynolds and Daniels to give the Saints a 9-5 lead. 
  • Clermont scored one run in the top of the 6th (9-6)
  • Martin started the bottom of the 6th inning off launching a ball over the left-field fence on a 2-2 count to continue the Saints lead to 10-5.
  •  To finish up the scoring for the Saints in the game, Atwood and Martin would score off of a defense indifference for the final score of 12-6.

  • Martin was excellent at the plate going 4-4, with three RBIs, one walk, one solo-homerun, and scored three runs.
  • Atwood was 3-4 at the plate, with one RBI, one walk, and scored four runs. 
  • Pearson went 2-4 with one RBI and one walk.
  • Benzinger was 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
  • Tyler Flick was 2-5 at the plate. 

  • Mitch Mierke pitched 3 innings allowing two hits and striking out three. 
  • Austin Hoeh pitched 0.2 innings allowing five runs off of four hits and striking out one.
  • Ty Grimes pitched 2.1 innings allowing one run off of one hit and striking out three with the win.
  • David Anthony pitched 3 innings allowing no runs with one hit and getting the save. 

The Saints return to the field tomorrow April 7 to take on Marian at Thomas More Field with the first pitch at 3:00 pm ET.
