Baseball Finishes Last Regular Season Double Header with Split Against Campbellsville

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)- Thomas More's baseball team finishes last regular season double header with a split against Campbellsville with the scores of 11-9 in game one (Thomas More) and 12-8 in game two (Campbellsville). The Saints overall record moves to 21-25 and 11-11 in conference. They finish seventh in the Mid-South Conference and will head down to Campbellsville, Ky. next weekend for another match up against the Tigers. 

Game 1: Thomas More 11-9

  • Sophomore first baseman Derek Atwood's (Burlington, Ky./Conner) scored off a balk to put the Saints up 1-0 in the 1st inning. Senior centerfielder  Tyler Flick (Okeana, Ohio/Ross) would be walked in to make it a 2-0 game. Sophomore pinch runner Cooper Daniels (Franklin, Ohio/Frankling) and junior designated hitter Aiden Reverman (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West)would both score off two different wild pitches (4-0).
  • Campbellsville scored one run in the 3rd (4-1).
  • Reverman singled to right in the bottom of the 3rd inning to score Atwood (5-1).
  • Campbellsville score one run in the 5th (5-2).
  • Senior left-fielder Brady Reynolds (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) was walked in to make it a 6-2 game. 
  • Campbellsville scored seven runs in the 7th inning (6-9).
  • Junior second baseman Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./ Simon Kenton) singled up the middle in the bottom of the 8th to score Junior  shortstop Brett Benzinger (Taylor Mill, Ky./ New Richmond) (7-9). Atwood would hit a sac fly to center to send in junior third baseman Casey Nowak (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic)  (8-9). Reynolds then singled to left to send in the Martin, which was the tying run (9-9). Reynolds would score the go ahead run off sophomore catcher Jacob Caruso's (Rootstown, Ohio/ Rootstown) single to shallow center field (10-9). Flick would score the final run off a stolen base (11-9).

Game 2: Campbellsville 8-12

  • Campbellsville scored two runs in the 2nd (0-2).
  • Caruso singled to left in the bottom of the 2nd inning, scoring Reynolds to make it a 1-2 game. Benzinger grounded out up the middle for an RBI, sending in Flick (2-2). Daniels and Reverman both scored off an error by the first baseman that was hit by Nowak to give the Saints the lead (4-2).
  • Campbellsville scored one run in the 3rd inning.
  • Martin would score in the 3rd inning off an error by the shortstop that was hit by Atwood (5-3).
  • Campbellsville score one run in the 4th inning and one in the 6th (5-5).
  • In the bottom of the 6th, Caruso hit a sac fly to deep center field to score Reynolds (6-5) to give the Saints the lead once again. Junior  Brennen Baker (Independence, Ky./ Simon Kenton) came in to pitch hit, hitting an RBI double deep down the right field line to send in Reverman (7-5).First-year right-fielder Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St.Henry) would step up to the plate, hitting a single to left to score Benzinger (8-5).
  • Campbellsville scored seven runs in the top of the 7th for the 8-12 win over the Saints. 

Game 1:

  • Atwood went 3-4 at the plate with one RBI, a double, and scored two runs. 
  • Reynolds was 2-4 with one RBI, a double, and also scored two runs.
  • Reverman was 1-2 with one RBI, one walk, and scored on run.

Game 2:

  • Baldock went 2-4 with and one RBI.
  • Reynolds was 1-3 scoring two runs. 
  • Flick went 2-4 a t the plate and scored one run.
  • Caruso was 2-2 with two RBIs.
  • Baker was 1-1 with a double and a RBI.

 

Game 1:

  • Senior pitcher Mitchell Morris (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) pitched 5.2 innings allowing two earned runs off eight hits and struck out four. 
  • Landen Scott pitched 0.2 innings allowing three earned runs off one hit.
  • Sophomore pitcher Hunter Nantz (London, Ky./North Laurel) pitched 0.2 innings giving up four earned runs off three hits and struck out two.
  • First-year pitcher Mason Berger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) got the win, pitching 1 inning giving up zero runs off two hits.
  • Junior pitcher Ty Grimes (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) got the save, pitching one innings and allowing only one hit.

Game 2:

  • Junior pitcher Mitch Mierke (Milford, Ohio/Milford) pitched 6.1 innings giving up 11 runs, five of which were earned off 10 hits and struck out three. 
  • Grimes pitched 0.2 innings giving up one run off two hits.

The Saints return to the field April 30 to open up post season conference place against Campbellsville once again, but this time down in Campbellsville, Ky. to fight for a spot in Bowling Green, Ky.
