#23 Men's Basketball Suffers First Loss to #13 Marian

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)- #23 Thomas More University men's basketball team suffered first loss of the season to #13 Marian on Saturday evening (Nov. 6), 66-57. The Saints overall record falls to 1-1.

  • Red-shirt junior Ryan Batte (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) started things off late for the Saints sinking two free throws to get the Saints on the board to make it a 6-2 game with 15:27 on the clock.
  • With 13:57 on the clock, senior Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) drained a 3-pointer to give the Saints the go ahead lead for the first time in the game (7-6).
  • Junior Logan Swackhammer (Chillicothe, Ohio/Unioto) made a jump shot with 13 seconds to secure the Saints lead going into the locker room at the end of the first half. 
  • Batte led the team with 13 points and had one rebound in the first half.
  • Rudy recorded six defensive rebounds to lead things defensively for the Saints and had five points and one steal.
  • Swackhammer tallied two assists to lead the Saints in the first half and had one rebound and two points.
  • The Saints were 38.5% (10-26) from the field, 33.3% (2-6) from the 3-point line, and 100% (4-4) from the free throw line in the first half.

  • Batte made a layup to start the scoring off for the Saints in the second half with 17:49 on the clock (30-28).
  • With 15:43 in the game, first year Casey George (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) went up for a layup to put the Saints within five (5-30).
  • First year Wyatt Vieth (Hebron, Ky./Saint Henry) made a layup for his first career college points for the Saints to cut the Knights lead to seven (47-38) with 10:04 to play in the game. 
  • With 3:08 to play, Batte tied things up 53-53 with a layup. 
  • The Saints ended up coming up short to the Knights 66-57.
  • Batte led things for the Saints in the second half with 16 points and three rebounds.
  • George followed with six points and led the Saints with two assists in the second half.
  • Pack also led the Saints with three rebounds.
  • The Saints were 40.6% (13-32) from the field, 16.7% (2-12) from the 3-point line, and 75% (3-4) from the free throw line in the second half.

  • Batte recorded 29 points to lead the Saints in scoring and had four rebounds.
  • George followed behind with eight points, two rebounds, and led the team in assists with two.
  • Rudy led the team defensively with eight rebounds and had five points. 
  • Pack had six rebounds and six points. 
  • Swackhammer also led the team in assists with two.
  • The Saints were 39.7% (23-58) from the field, 22.2% (4-18) from the 3-point line, and 87.5% (7-8) from the free throw line.

Next up, the Saints return to the court on Thursday evening (Nov. 11) at 7:00 ET against Simmons College of Kentucky in the Connor Convocation Center.
