(GROVE CITY, Pa.) - Thomas More College fell to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Grove City College today (January 21, 2017) in a nail biter, 63-61, in Grove City, Pennsylvania. Thomas More is now 11-6 overall and 7-3 in the PAC.
With the largest lead of the game being eight points every possession counted today. Battling back and forth the Saints out-rebounded the Wolverines 36-30 and shot 45 percent from behind the three-point line. With 7:15 left in the second half sophomore guard Damion King (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) connect on a 15-foot jumper to put the Saints up by eight. Down the stretch the Saints battled to hold a lead until 3:52 left in the game when Grove City's Andrew Beckman tied the game at 57-57 after making an elbow jumper.
The Saints took the lead back with 52-second left when sophomore guard Brandon Horne (Louisville, Ky./Male) went to the line and gave his team a one point lead, 61-60. With 40-seconds left Beckman put the Wolverines up by one when he finished a lay-up at the rim. Going to the line with 15-seconds left Isaac Williams made one-of-two free-throws giving his team a two-point lead which is what the Wolverines' winning margin ended up being.
The Saints had nine players reach the scoring column and were led by junior center Simon Clifford (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual), who finished the game with 14 points. The Saints had two other players reach double-digits today as King and sophomore forward Ralph Stone (Shelbyville, Ky./Martha Layne Collins) both finished the game with 11 points. Sophomore guard Ryne Callahan (Morehead, Ky/ Rowan County) came up one point shy of double-digits finishing with nine points.
The Wolverines of Grove City had seven players reach the scoring column tonight and were led by Huff, who finished with the game high 23 points. Other scorers to reach double-digits were Beckman, who finished with 15 points and Nate Peters, who finished with 10 points.
The Saints will hit the hard wood again on Wednesday (January 25) as they take on PAC opponent Thiel College inside the Connor Convocation Center. Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m..
