Box Score 2 (WESTERVILLE, Ohio) – The Thomas More College went 2-0 today (Saturday, October 8, 2016) as it defeated Rose-Hulman Insititute of Technology 3-0 and Otterbein University 3-1 at a tri-match at the Rike Center in Westerville, Ohio.
With the two wins the Saints improve to 14-8 on the season.
In the first match of the day, Thomas More defeated Rose-Hulman 25-20, 25-15 and 25-20. First-year setter Alli Borders (Florence, Ky./Boone County) paced the offense with 36 assists. Senior outside hitter Marisa Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) led the Saints' offensive attack with 15 kills, while first-year middle hitter Rebecca St. John (Okeana, Ohio/Ross) added eight kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Leanne Dant (Louisville, Ky./Bethlehem) led the Saints in service aces with three.
On the defensive side of the net Borders led the team in blocks with five, while junior defensive specialist Rachel Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) had 16 digs, Meyer added 15 digs and Dant had 13 digs.
The Saints defeated host Otterbein 23-25, 25-16, 25-21 and 29-27 in the final match of the day. Five Saints had double-digit kills as Meyer had 14, senior right side Paige Noday (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) had 12, St. John and senior middle hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) each finished with 11 and first-year outside hitter Madison Krumpelman (Crestview Hills, Ky./Holy Cross) had 10. Borders finished the match with 50 assists.
Bronner led the team in digs with 30, while Meyers added 12 and Dant finished with 11. Bierbaum led the Saints at the net with six blocks.
Thomas More is idle until October 17 when it hosts Thiel College at 4 p.m. and Saint Vincent College at 6 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
