Box Score 2 (NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) – The Thomas More College softball team swept Westminster College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader today (Thursday, April 23, 2015) at the Westminster Softball Complex in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. The Saints won game one, 8-5, and the nightcap, 11-2.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 22-14 overall and 12-4 in the PAC and the Titans fall to 19-13 overall and 9-7 in the PAC.
In game one, the Saints scored four in the first, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the seventh and held Westminster to three runs in the first, one in the second and one in the sixth for the 8-5 victory.
Junior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned the win in the circle as she pitched seven innings giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and struck out three.
Salzer also led the team at the plate as she was two-for-three with a home run, a run batted-in and two runs scored. Junior shortstop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was two-for-four with a double, a RBI and a run scored.
In the nightcap, the Saints scored four in the second, one in the fourth, two in the sixth and four in the seventh, while they held Westminster to one in the first and one in the fifth for the 11-2 win and the sweep.
Salzer also earned the win in the nightcap as she pitched seven innings giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and struck out one.
Two Saints had multiple hits in the game as freshman designated player Bree Appel (Amelia, Ohio/Batavia) was three-for-four with a double and a run scored and freshman right fielder Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) was two-for-four with a double and three RBI.
Thomas More will close out the regular season on Saturday (April 25) when it travels to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to play Saint Vincent College. The first pitch of the PAC doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
