Box Score 2 (GREENVILLE, Pa.) – The Thomas More College softball team swept its second Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader in as many days today (Thursday, April 2, 2015) as it took two from Thiel College at Tomcat Park in Greenville, Pennsylvania. The Saints won game one, 8-2, and the nightcap, 14-5, in six innings.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 12-8 overall and 4-0 in the PAC, while the Tomcats fall to 10-8 overall and 3-3 in the PAC.
In the first game of the day, the Saints scored three in the second, one in the third, one in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh, while holding Thiel to two runs in the sixth for the 8-2 victory.
Junior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned the win in the circle as she pitched seven innings and gave up two runs (both earned) on six hits, while striking out eight.
Freshman second baseman Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) led the team at the plate as she was three-for-five with two runs batted-in and one runs scored. Freshman designated player Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was three-for-five with a triple and two runs scored and junior shortstop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was two-for-four with a double, a RBI and a run scored.
In the nightcap, Thomas More plated two runs in the first, five in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and two in the sixth, while holding Thiel to one in the first, one in the second and two in the fifth for the 14-5 victory.
Walter was three-for-three with two doubles and four runs scored, while Sagers was three-for-three with a double, four RBI and three runs scored to lead the Saints at the plate. Three other Saints had multiple hits in the game as Knotts was two-four-four with two RBI, Salzer was two-for-two with four RBI and one run scored and freshman right fielder Bree Appel (Amelia, Ohio/Batavia) was two-for-three with a RBI.
Knott earned the win in the circle as she pitched six innings and gave up five runs (all earned) on 10 hits and struck out two.
Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (April 4) when it travels to New Concord, Ohio to play Muskingum University. The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
