Box Score 2 (ANDERSON, Ind.) – The Thomas More College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with regionally-ranked Anderson University today (Friday, April 17, 2015) at Raven Field in Anderson, Indiana. The Ravens won game one, 5-3, but the Saints came back and won the nightcap, 2-1.
With the split, the Saints are 19-13 and the Ravens are 19-7.
In game one, Anderson scored one in the first, two in the second and two in the fourth, while holding Thomas More to three runs in the fourth for the 5-3 victory.
Freshman designated player Bree Appel (Amelia, Ohio/Batavia) led the team at the plate as she was two-for-three with a home run, three runs batted-in and one run scored.
Junior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) suffered the loss in the circle as she pitched six innings giving up five runs (all earned) on eight hits and striking out two.
In the nightcap, junior shortstop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) hit a double in the top of the seventh scoring senior center fielder Catie Luck (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) and freshman right fielder Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) to give the Saints a 2-0 and lead and they only gave up one run in the bottom half of the inning for the 2-1 victory.
Freshman pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) earned the win in the circle as she pitched seven innings and gave up one run (earned) on four hits and struck out two.
At the plate, Finke was three-for-three with a run scored, Walter was three-for-four with a double and two RBI and Knotts was two-for-three.
Thomas More returns to action tomorrow as it hosts Bethany College. First pitch for the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
