Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Geneva College on Wednesday (April 15, 2015) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Thomas More won game one, 5-0, and Geneva won the nightcap, 6-4.
With the split, the Saints are 18-12 overall and 9-3 in the PAC and the Golden Tornadoes are 15-16 overall and 5-6 in the PAC.
In the first game of the day, Thomas More scored two in the third and three in the fifth and shutout Geneva for the 5-0 victory.
Junior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned the win in the circle as she pitched seven shutout innings and gave up three hits, while striking out seven.
Salzer also led the team at the plate as she was two-for-three with a double, a run batted-in and a run scored.
In the nightcap, Geneva scored on run in the fourth and five in the fifth and held Thomas More to three runs in the fifth and one in the seventh for a 6-4 victory.
Offensively, junior shortstop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was two-four-four with a home run, a double, two RBI and two runs scored and junior first baseman Staci Stewart (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) was two-for-three with a home run, a RBI and a run scored.
In the circle, freshman pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) suffered the loss as she pitched four innings, giving up one run (earned) on five hits and striking out four. Salzer pitched three innings of relief and gave up five runs (one earned) on one hit and struck out five.
Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (April 18) when it hosts Bethany College in its final home doubleheader of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
