Box Score 2 (WESTERVILLE, Ohio) – The Thomas More College volleyball team defeated the University of Mount Union and Otterbein University both by the score of 3-1 today (Saturday, October 31, 2015) in a tri-match at the Rike Center in Westerville, Ohio.
With the two wins, the Saints close out the regular season with a 24-4 record.
In the first match of the day against Mount Union the Saints won by the scores of 25-20, 25-20, 18-25 and 27-25. Two Saints finished with double-digit kills as senior middle blocker Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) had a match-high 22 and junior outside hitter Marisa Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) finished with 16. Sophomore setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) led the team in assists with 48.
On the defensive side of the net, Knaley led the Saints' block party with six total blocks. Five Saints had double-digit digs as sophomore defensive specialist Rachel Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) had 17, junior outside hitter Sydney Bragg (Huron, Ohio/Huron) had 15, Fessler added 12, Meyer had 11 and freshman defensive specialist Leanne Dant (Louisville, Ky./Bethlehem) had 10.
Thomas More defeated Otterbein in the second match by the scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-15 and 25-16. Knaley had 15 kills to lead the Saints, while Meyer added 14 and junior middle hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) finished with 10. Fessler paced the offense with 43 assists.
Knaley again led the team in blocks with 10 total. Bronner led the team in digs with 17, while Meyer had 13 and Dant had 10.
Thomas More returns to action on Friday (November 6) when it plays in the 6 p.m. semifinal match of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship tournament at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
