Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College baseball team fell, 17-5, to Bethany College today (Sunday, May 4, 2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Senior Day at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 20-17 overall and 14-10 in the PAC and with the win, the Bison improve to 19-15 and 14-10 in the PAC. Thomas More will be the No. 2 seed and Bethany will be the No. 3 seed in this week's PAC Championship Tournament hosted by Washington & Jefferson College May 8-10 in Washington, Pennsylvania. First day match ups will be, No. 1 seed Washington & Jefferson versus No. 4 seed Waynesburg University at 6 p.m. and No. 2 seed Thomas More versus No. 3 seed Bethany at 3 p.m.
Bethany broke up a 5-5 tie in the sixth inning with five runs in the six, two in the seventh and five in the eighth for the 17-5 victory.
Two Saints had multiple hits in the game as senior designated hitter Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) was two-for-three with a double and a run batted-in and sophomore shortstop Marcus Woelfel (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) was two-for-two.
Thomas More had nine pitchers take the mound in the game as sophomore Zak Orlemann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) suffered the loss as he pitched two-thirds of an innings and gave up five runs (all earned) on one hit, while walking five. Senior Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) started the game and pitched one scoreless inning and didn't allow a hit.
Prior to the game, Thomas More honored seniors Tyler Graber (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder), Jason Handley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), Craig Hyson (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas), Patrick Kolks (Bath, Ind./Oldenburg Academy), Cody Makin, Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry), Andy Roenker and Jake Samad (Burlington, Ky./Conner), who were playing their final games at Thomas More Field.
