Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College softball team posted two shutout wins today (Wednesday, April 9, 2014) as it swept Thiel College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Thomas More won game one, 4-0, and the nightcap, 9-0, in six innings.
With the sweep the Saints improve to 15-6 overall and 4-0 in the PAC and the Tomcats fall to 12-11 overall and 5-3 in the PAC.
In game one, the Saints scored all four runs in the second inning to post the 4-0 win.
Senior pitcher Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) earned the shutout win in the circle as she pitched seven innings and gave up four hits, while striking out eight and walking one.
Freshman first baseman Jamie Ertel (Mt. Healthy, Ohio/McAuley) led the team at the plate as she was three-for-three with a double and run scored. Junior outfielder Catie Luck (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) was two-for-three with a run batted-in.
In the nightcap, Thomas More plated three runs in the third, four in the fourth and two in the sixth and shutout Thiel for the 9-0 win in six innings.
Sophomore pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned the shutout win as she pitched six innings and gave up eight hits, while striking out two.
Two Saints had multiple hits in the game as Salzer was three-for-four with a double, three RBI and two runs scored and sophomore designated player Haley Shuemake (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) was two-for-three with a home run, a double, four RBI and a run scored.
Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (April 12) as it travels to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to play Chatham University at 1 p.m.
