Saints Split at Geneva; Salzer Tosses No-Hitter in Game Two

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) - The Thomas More College softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Geneva College today (Saturday, April 19, 2014) and sophomore Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) tossed a no-hitter in game two at Conrady Field in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.  Geneva won game one, 3-2, but the Saints won game two, 11-0 in five innings.

With the split, Thomas More is 23-8 overall and 12-2 in the PAC and Geneva is 17-12 overall and 11-3 in the PAC.

In game one, the Golden Tornadoes scored three runs in the sixth and the Saints answered with a pair of runs in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as Geneva won, 3-2.

Sophomore shortstop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) led the Saints at the plate as she was three-for-three with a home run, two runs batted-in and a run scored.  Salzer, sophomore designated hitter Hayley Shuemake (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland), junior pinch hitter Hannah Curtis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) and junior right fielder Catie Luck (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) each had a hit in the game.

Senior pitcher Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) suffered the loss in the circle as she pitched six innings giving up three runs (all earned) on four hits and struck out 14.

In the nightcap, Thomas More scored two runs in the second, six in the third and three in the fourth, while Salzer hurled no-hitter for the 11-0 five inning win.

Salzer struck out five and walked one in her no-hit shutout.

Sophomore right fielder Krista Summe (Forest Park, Ohio/Cincinnati Christian) was three-for-three at the plate with a home run, two doubles, six RBI and two runs scored.  Ana Walter was two-for-three with a home run, three RBI and one run scored, while senior third baseman Alex Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was three-for-three with three runs scored and freshman first baseman Jamie Ertel (Mt. Healthy, Ohio/McAuley) was two-for-three with a double, a RBI and two runs scored.

Thomas More returns to the diamond on Monday (April 21) when it hosts Muskingum University in a non-conference doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
