Box Score 2 (BETHANY, W.Va.) - The Thomas Moe College softball team swept Bethany College today (Friday, April 18, 2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Bison Field in Bethany, West Virginia. The Saints won both games by the score of 6-0.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 22-7 overall and 11-1 in the PAC and the Bison fall to 12-18 overall and 8-6 in the PAC.
In the first game of the day, the Saints plated five run in the first inning and added another in the fourth, while holding Bethany scoreless.
Senior pitcher Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) pitched a complete game shutout, while only allowing two hits and striking out eight.
Sophomore designated player Hayley Shuemake (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) was two-for-three with a run batted-in and one run scored and senior centerfielder Ashley Shouse (Lebanon, Ohio/Springboro) was two-for-three with a run scored. Junior left fielder Catie Luck (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) was one-for-three with two RBI.
In the nightcap, the Saints scored one run in the fourth, one in the sixth and four in the seventh and held Bethany scoreless for the second 6-0 victory of the day.
Freshman first baseman Jamie Ertel (Mt. Healthy, Ohio/McAuley) led the team at the plate as she was three-for-four with two RBI. Two other Saints had multiple hit in the game as sophomore pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was two-for-four with a home run, three RBI and a run scored and Luck was two-for-three. Shuemake was one-for-four with a home run, a RBI and a run scored.
In the circle, Salzer earned the win as she had a complete game shutout while giving up three hits and striking out six.
Thomas More returns to action tomorrow as it plays Geneva College in a PAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
