Box Score 2 (AUBURNDALE, Fla.) - The Thomas More College softball team swept a pair games today (Friday, March 14, 2014) on the final day of the Rebel Spring Games in Auburndale, Florida. The Saints defeated Albion College, 6-0, and Husson College, 7-1.
The Saints end their Florida swing with an overall record of 6-3.
Sophomore pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned the win in the circle against Albion as she pitched five shutout innings and only allowed two hits, while striking out eight.
Sophomore Krista Summe (Forest Park, Ohio/Cincinnati Christian) led the team at the plate as she was two-for-three with a run scored. Freshman Sammy Hawkins (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) was one-for-three with two runs batted-in and a run scored, senior Alex Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was one-for-two with two RBI and senior Stefaney Turner (Carlisle, Ohio/Franklin) was one-for-three with a RBI.
In the game against Husson, senior pitcher Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) earned the win as she pitched six innings and gave up one unearned run on four hits, while striking out four and walking three.
Freshman Jamie Ertel (Mount Healthy, Ohio/McAuley) led the Saints' offense as she was three-for-three with three doubles, a RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was two-for-four, senior Ashley Fletcher (Lebanon, Ohio/Springboro) was one-for-three with two RBI and Summe was one-for-two with two runs scored.
Thomas More returns to the diamond on Wednesday (March 19) when it travels to Wilmington, Ohio to play Wilmington College. First pitch of the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 3:3 p.m.
